The title of this article is unofficial; an official name hasn't been found, so it's been given a fitting title by the editors of this wiki for amenity, either from a popular fan-name or a mere description of the topic. If an official name appears, then it should be moved to the official name. |

These independent flying yin-yang objects are stage enemies in the Touhou Project that have first appeared in Subterranean Animism. They appearance bares the resemblance of the Yin-Yang Orbs, but they to likely have no connexions with the orbs due to Reimu Hakurei destroying these things. It's a total mystery as to what these things are, what they are called or what their purpose is.
These thing have two outer layer rings that spin their opposite directions with 5 spherical lights on each ring. There are four known colours to these: blue, green, red and purple. Which colour and what kind of danmaku they shoot depends on the game stage they on and what difficulty. Also, they mostly use lasers for their danmaku.
Flying yin-yangs' Appearances
Windows Games
The flying yin-yangs made its début on stage 2 of Subterranean Animism, coming in fast and shooting danmaku. On stage 3, they were zooming in from the background and appear to support Yuugi Hoshiguma during her boss battle. They re-appeared on stage 4, coming down in queues and again in stage 5.
The flying tin-yangs make a re-appearance in Undefined Fantastic Object, which can be said that it fits well to have these in this game since it is UFO-themed and that these flying creature do resemble unknown flying objects. On stage 2, they'll appear from a mist and shoot large danmaku at the heroine while homing on them. They were shown to appear in Makai on stage 5, creating a sort of obstacle for the player to dodge.
The flying yin-yangs again make an appearance on Ten Desires and Double Dealing Character, performing the same way as it did in the previous games.
Additional Information
- The sprites for the flying yin-yangs on each game appears to only have the yin-yang and the inner ring. It's unclear where the outer ring is coming from.
