These independent flying yin-yang objects are stage enemies in the Touhou Project that have first appeared in Subterranean Animism. Their appearance bares the resemblance of the Yin-Yang Orbs, but they likely to have no connexions with the orbs due to Reimu Hakurei destroying these things. It's a total mystery as to what these things are, what they are called or what their purpose is since no-one makes reference to them and they've only appeared in the gaming series.

These things have two outer layer rings that spin on their opposite directions with 5 spherical lights on each ring. There are four known colours to these: blue, green, red and purple. Which colour and what kind of danmaku they shoot depends on the game stage they're on and what difficulty. Also, they mostly use lasers for their danmaku.

The flying yin-yangs make a re-appearance in Undefined Fantastic Object, which can be said that it fits well to have these in this game since it is UFO-themed and that these flying creature do resemble unknown flying objects. On stage 2, they'll appear from a mist and shoot large danmaku at the heroine while homing on them. They were shown to appear in Makai on stage 5, creating a sort of obstacle for the player to dodge.

The flying yin-yangs make a return in Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom on Stage 3 in the Dream World as stage enemies. They're primarily the only stage enemy on Stage 4 at the Lunar Capital, and Sagume Kishin, the midboss and boss of the stage, over-uses them both using spell cards and non-spell cards.

Flying Yin-yangs
A green wheel ghost in Double Dealing Character.
Location

Gensokyo, Underworld, Makai, Lunar Capital

Appearances
Official Games

Wheel Ghosts are flying yin-yang objects that appear as stage enemies in the Touhou Project, which first appeared in Subterranean Animism, and were given an official name in 100th Black Market. Their appearance bears resemblance to the Yin-Yang Orbs, but their connection to them is unknown.

The wheel ghosts have two outer layer rings that spin on their opposite directions with 5 spherical lights on each ring. There are four known colours to these: blue, green, red and purple. Which colour and what kind of danmaku they shoot depends on the game stage they're on and the difficulty.
