Notes

  1. Kawarake throwing: the practice of throwing unglazed earthware plates from a high place to ward off evil.
  2. "Miwa" (三輪, 'three rings') is the name of a sacred mountain in Japan, as well as the famous Omiwa Shrine (大神神社), which is known as Japan's prototypical Shinto shrine. The name of Futo's theme song also makes reference to the Omiwa Shrine.
  3. Taiyi (太乙) refers to the ancient Chinese divination method Taiyi Shenshu (simplified Chinese: 太乙神数; traditional Chinese: 太乙神數). True Fire (真火) refers to the fire of life that burns in the hearts of everyone, according to Taoist physiology. Also a visual pun with 太乙真人 (Taiyi Zhenren), a character in the Chinese novel Fengshen Yanyi
