Review
This album is proof that you should never, ever judge anything by its cover, nor the titles of its tracks. When you look at the album's jacket art and rather interesting track titles, you may be surprised by what you hear in the album. Interestingly, the album mainly consists of complex, hyperactive synthesizer and sampler pieces, with only little bits of electric guitar here and there (although track 08, "Poinsettia," has guitar as one of the main instruments) - shocking, considering the fact that most people know ARM as IOSYS' excellent guitarist (who also did death metal vocals in Border of Death - how musically contradictory!). However, this isn't to say that the album isn't bad. The remixes are certainly some of the most unique I've ever heard, although in ways some listeners may not be able to bear.
Recommended to:
- People who can tolerate high-speed and hyperactive synth pieces
- People who like a large variety of synth effects
- People who like IOSYS' more playful works
Not recommended to:
- People who dislike synthesizers
- People who like heavy music
- People who like IOSYS' more "badass" works
- People who cannot bear listening to too much synth stuff
Standout Tracks
- "02. Helichrysum" - Very soothing
- "05. Landscaper" - This piece is a pleasant change from the prior songs, which were a large chaotic collection of hyperactive synthesizer pieces that, quite frankly, sound like someone was having a little bit too much fun on the synth. Instead, this piece seems to focus a bit more on musical beauty, and it far easier to listen to. Very pleasant to have some musical variety.
- "08. Poinsettia" - Finally, an arrangement by ARM that had guitar in it! Just that notion, combined with the fact that the synthesizers aren't going insane as usual, make this a must-listen.
- "09. Rainbow" - Beautiful piece, like track 05, but even slower and more pleasant. It's also rather interesting, as it uses instruments the other tracks didn't use too much or at all, and has recordings of what sounds like the laughter and happy discussion of children.
