Double Dealing Character/Gameplay/Strategy/Stage 4B
< | Stage 3 Stage 4A |
Double Dealing Character strategy | Stage 5 | > |
This is the stage for B-type characters (weaponless ones, Reimu B, Marisa B and Sakuya B). The midboss is the elder sister Benben, while the last boss is the younger Yatsuhashi. Yatsuhashi's spell are fairly difficult and require a lot of skill to clear, but her normal attacks are a lot easier. This stage is considered by many to be easier than 4A.

Road 1
During the 4 waves of fairies' rush, you can hide from their attacks at the top of the screen. This is a good option if you don't feel like earning items and want to save the lives and bombs you currently have. Keep in mind, you'll still need to dodge the orb shots up there.
It is possible to create a safe zone if you play on Normal.
Wait for the stage title to appear, notice the phrase 幻想郷上空. You want to be approximately one hitbox up from the 幻 character. Once there, wait for the fairies' crowd to intersect in the middle and shoot. If you do it right, that place will not only serve as a safe zone, but you'll also receive point items and fragments. With that said, you'll need a lot of firepower to take down those fairies fast, so do not attempt this if you're not at full power. Because you'll need maximum firepower, Reimu and Sakuya should use their high-speed shots, Marisa should use focused shots. On Easy difficulty, orbs will use aimed shots against you, so you will have to dodge them (once).
For the orbs shooting lasers at you, notice that lasers can hit you when you're standing on Normal and Hard, but not on Easy and Lunatic. In fact, on Easy you can just stand perfectly still and the lasers won't hit you. On Lunatic, it means you'll have to dodge the bullets with very tiny movements, or you'll run into a laser.
Midboss (Benben Tsukumo): Normal Attack 1
Drops a lot of danmaku notes at you after the laser score disappears. You can control the way notes spawn with your position. Because of that, if you're feeling uncomfortable with the card, try staying closer to the screen borders.
Midboss: Normal Attack 2
A barrage of notes and rest marks which come in lines. This is a very difficult attack. On Lunatic, this attack is almost impossible to win against. Bombing sincerely recommended.
Road 2
The part of the stage where the orbs move up from the bottom is a good opportunity to earn fragments. Moving in an U-shape will allow you to take down enough enemies and absorb their items. On Lunatic, you need to be very swift with cutbacks. Even a slight failure can completely block your escape.
Boss (Yatsuhashi Tsukumo): Normal Attack 1
Shoots wisps at you. Wisps have unpredictable paths and look a lot like spirits from Ten Desires. If you're going to dodge this attack, do it at the bottom.
Koto Sign: Sounds of Anicca's Koto
Shoots bullets in your general direction. The waves are regular 6-ways at the beginning, but the paths of the bullets change unpredictably, so you can consider it a random barrage... if you consider dodging this in front of the boss. If you're going to dodge this from the front of the boss, staying closer to the boss might help, as the paths won't have time to change too much before you have to dodge the bullets. It is also possible to dodge this attack by rotating around the boss. For Reimu B, this is an especially good tactic, other characters should try mixing it: start by violently shooting the boss, then do a full rotation and try to finish off the spell. If you can master the rotation, it'll probably be safer to use it than usual dodging.
Boss: Normal Attack 2
The bullets slow down near the screen bottom. Stay near the bottom, look for gaps in the pattern and cut through.
Echo Sign: Heian's Reverberation (Easy/Normal) / Echo Sign: Echo Chamber (Hard/Lunatic)
The bullets rebound off the walls, increasing the pattern's density. Bullets are fired in 1 stream on Easy, 2 on Normal, 3 on Hard and 4 on Lunatic. The biggest challenge of this card is when you have to cut through the stream from the boss and the reflected bullets at the same time. This spell card can get a little difficult after some time. It's probably safest to drop a bomb a few seconds into it.
Boss: Normal Attack 3
Notes split into rest marks near the bottom. Stay near the bottom and dodge. If you survived till this moment, it's not going to be too hard for you.
Koto Music: Social Upheaval Koto Music Complement (Easy/Normal) / Koto Music: Social Upheaval Requiem (Hard, Lunatic)
The bullets that come from the bottom spawn at a certain horizontal distance from Yatsuhashi. You may think this allows you to easily block one of the sources by staying close to the edge, but if you do that, Yatsuhashi adds 6-way shots into the pattern. You also have to pay attention to the fluttering bullets coming from above. On Easy and Normal, simply dodge. Try to get into rhythm with Yatsuhashi's movements. On Hard and Lunatic, this card is very hard. You'll have to keep looking for gaps and maintain your damage output. It's easy to get out of sync, losing a way to damage the boss, which can make the card drag for a long time. Consider bombing.
