1面という事で、ちょっとインパクトのある曲にしました。
どういう原理で湖に常に霧が立ちこめているんでしょうねぇ。
魚は棲んで無さそうですが、意外と色んな妖怪が棲んでいる
みたいです。

Since it's the stage 1 theme, I made it a track to leave a bit of an impact.
Thanks to some principle or other, there's always mist hanging over the lake.
No fish seem to live there, but there surprisingly seems to be various youkai
living there.

水中なら腕に自信がある人魚ですが、残念ながら幻想郷は
陸地の方が多いのです。
本気さを感じないかるーい感じの戦闘曲にしました。
天ぷら大好きです。

She's a mermaid who's confident in her ability while underwater,
but unfortunately there's more land than water in Gensokyo.
I made this battle music with a light feeling to it, rather than a serious one.
I do love tempura.

2面のテーマです。
一面ののほほん感とはうって変わって中二っぽい
妖怪なので少し意識しました。
一定のビートで淡々と進む感じが出ているかなと。

The stage 2 theme.
In sharp contrast to the relaxed feeling of stage 1, the youkai here have a "cooler-
than-thou" [1] thing going on, which I kept in mind somewhat.
Does the constant beat give a feeling of indifferent progress?

ろくろ首って、首が伸びるんだか頭が飛ぶんだか
よく判らないですよね。
でも首が飛んでいるときに体を動かすと、元に
戻れなくなるみたいですよ?

Sekibanki's theme.
I don't really know whether rokurokubi are supposed to stretch their neck
or send their head flying.
But when the head comes off and their body moves elsewhere,
it seems like they can't go back to normal, right?
Notes:
In Irish mythology, a dullahan is a headless horse rider that's always seeking its head. The description hangs onto this question on whether or not it will even find the head. Curiously, Sekibanki is a combination of both types of mythology: she has her head, but she lets it "loose" even though it isn't connected.

いつの間にか迷いの竹林は月を崇める妖怪の聖地に
なっていたんですね。
曲も永夜抄のアレを意識しました。

It's a full moon in the Bamboo Forest.
At some point, the Bamboo Forest of the Lost became a sacred place
for youkai who worship the moon.
I kept that from Imperishable Night in mind for this track, too.

中ボスっぽい感じを出しまくってみました。
まあ三面ですしね。
ちなみに満月は本物ですので彼女も変身できます。

I tried giving it a midboss-ish feeling.
Because it's stage 3 and all.
By the way, since this full moon is real, she can transform, too.
Notes:
The "full moon being real" is a reference to Imperishable Night's main scenario, where the full moon was replaced with an incomplete, illusory one.

不気味かと言えばそうでも無く、明るいかと言えばそうでも無い。
ちょっと不思議な浮遊感を出してます。
嵐の割にはフワフワしているし……。
文字通り足が地に着かない感じですね。

It's not quite "eerie", and not quite "bright".
It gives more of a feeling of "mysterious floatiness".
Even though it's a storm, you float around calmly...
It gives a feeling of literally not having your feet on the ground.

I wanted to make the song feature drums prominently, but
in the end I just didn't have the courage. In terms of the game's image.
The drums play a main part for a short interlude section of the song.
As a side note, her shoes are probably made so she can swing her feet
to hit the bass drum.
Notes:
- The words "pristine" or "始原 enphasizes a long history of Raiko or of the drum. But the naming of the music seems to be just a pun — the words have very similar meaning to "ancient/very-old", and there is a Japanese word "ancient" (太古, taiko), which shares the same sound with "drum" (太鼓, taiko).
