16F: The Aging Dark Forest Decayed in a Cage of Thoughts

Overview

The floor is based around using Arrow Tiles to travel to various sections of the floor. You'll be able to explore just about every part of the floor except for a small section that needs to be accessed from floor 17, and the Northwest corner of the floor which is accessed from floor 15. There isn't much else going on besides some treasure behind several one way Arrow Tiles that end up making you go back to the entrance to the floor. Not that this is a bad thing as grinding to a decent level will make the upcoming boss fight much easier.

  • At the northwestern part of the floor, you can find an item "Diva's Proof", allowing your characters to take on Diva subclass.
  • There is a stationary FOE on this floor which can only be accessed from Floor 15. It is too strong for your party the first time you reach this floor so don't bother with it until you have beaten the game.
  • At the northern center part of this floor is an area that you can't access until Postgame.
  • Postgame: Shredding Amnisieri can be fought near the FOE after you have beaten the game.
  • Postgame: Once you defeat all 3 deformed bosses (Shredding Amnisieri, Aria-Singing Toruastory and Staring Igmaruji), the barrier on the northern center part of the floor disappears and you can recruit Renko.

Enemies

  • The enemies on this floor are fast and hard-hitting. They can also cripple your party with MP draining spells, ailments and Debuff.
  • Demon Fruit has 28560 HP and it can cast Detonation which reduces its HP to 1 and deal damage based on the HP lost.
  • Fantasy Mushroom can cast Dangerous scent which drain your front liners' MP by 2.
  • Dream Eating Beast will always alternate between casting Terrifying Wave, which inflict Terror to your front liners, and Terror Eater, which kills anyone inflicted with Terror.

Dull Light Water - 100.0%
Spirit's Orb - 100.0%

This boss fight is decided by how much damage you can do to it per turn. The goddess regenerates 20% of its max HP per turn it gets. You need to be able to consistently deal more damage than it can regenerate each turn or the fight will drag on, only to end in its favor. In this sense, it's very similar to the Mokou fight.

Considering that the fight is so similar, the same strategies can be used. Spend as much time as needed to buff up your attackers so you can output enough damage to kill it in one or two turns. Suika, Kaguya, Yuugi, Remilia and Meiling are great for this fight, since it's weak to Wind, Spirit and Physical. It's heavily resistant to Fire and Dark so Alice and Kogasa won't be doing much damage. It's immune to all ailments, moderately resists ATK, DEF and SPD debuffs, and is very weak to DEF and MND debuffs.

The goddess uses various Dark and other Fire, Wind and Nature attacks that you've already seen before. Specifically; Whirlwind, a single-target Wind attack that can inflicts Paralysis, Swallow, a defense-ignoring Dark attack that can inflict Death, Heat Gaze, a single-target Fire spell, Acid Rain, a Nature spell that debuffs your Defense, Terrifying Wave a multi-target Dark spell that can inflicts Terror, Magical Blast, a multi-target Mystic spell, Black Universe, which inflicts Paralysis, Terror, Debuffs your Speed and reduce your HP to 1 and Deranging Aroma which debuffs all of your stats with zero delay, making it regenerate twice. Thus, elemental, ailment and debuff resistances are really helpful in this fight.

There's a little bit of luck involved, as it might decide to use its shorter delay attacks causing its turn to come up faster and as a result, regenerate faster. Its highest delay attack is Devil's Crimes, which is used periodically every 4 turns (counting Regeneration as a turn) and debuffs all of your frontliners' stats but put its ATB to 2500. Its second-highest delay attack is Magical Blast which puts its ATB to 4000. Debuffing its Speed would be ideal, though its Debuff resistance is high enough that it might be better to just focus on buffing your attackers.

Make sure to use have an Herbalist buff up your attackers with Herb of Awakening for that extra boost. Consider switching-in characters with damage boosting passives when you finally go into the offensive, including elemental damage boosts (Sanae, Mokou/Okuu and Yuugi), or Satori's increased damage on weaknesses.

First, do not attempt to engage this boss before you've beaten the game. As you can see, he sports a massive HP total and regenerates 172800 HP each turn. His attacks include "Swallow", a single target Dark move that inflicts Death you've seen before, Devil's Crimes, a party wide debuff, Half Moon Slash, a move that cuts your party's HP in half, Destroy Magic, Leg Sweep, Storm Of Dark Flow, 1000 Needles and Shadowstep. It's immune to SIL, TRR and DTH, and heavily resists all other statuses except Heavy, which he has no resistance to, and you should try to inflict it to slow down his turns and soften it up for your Physical attackers. It moderately resists Cold and Mystic and is heavily resistant to Dark. Thankfully, both his Defense and Mind are low, and he has a major weakness to Fire and Spirit, making Alice, Mokou, Kaguya, Okuu and Eiki all good choices for attackers.

Like all the previous bosses with regeneration, don't start attacking until you are prepared. Don't take too long though or you'll be bogged down by debuffs or a good chunk of your party Swallowed (this can be avoided by packing some Debuff and Death resistances.) It's very fast, so having someone who can buff speed (like Aya or Sakuya) will be extremely helpful; his Debuff resist is high and regeneration counts as a turn so debuffs will wear off faster as well. When you're ready, lay everything you've got on him. He only has a few attacks that do worrisome damage (Swallow is his big one, but 1000 Needles can put a dent in your party too wihtout proper Physical resistance) so you shouldn't have to worry too much about healing. He does have a low chance of using Ether Flare when below 70% HP for massive Mystic damage, so try to have 1-2 characters who can survive it available. It also has a low chance of casting World-Devouring Destruction after it falls below 40% HP, so be prepared to heal everyone back posthaste if it happens.

Returning from the first game with a vengeance, Shredding Amnisieri is the first of the three bosses required to recruit Renko. It is also arguably the most difficult. It sports not only extremely high Defense, it also regenerates 98266 HP every turn. Bringing at least two characters with high damage potential, such as Nitori, Yuugi, Kaguya or Eiki, is highly recommended. Their respective nukes all target Shredding's weak affinities, and Eiki's and Kaguya's in particular ignore Defense and Mind. Most of its attacks are Dark and target Defense, so stack Dark affinity and Defense, and build for Speed. Shredding is already very fast at base, but it also passively gains 48 SPD every turn it gets, making it more difficult to keep up with it as the fight goes on.

Initially, Shredding likes to spam Scythe of Calamity, an attack that does moderate Dark damage to your whole front line, but rather than dealing damage normally, it damages your max HP. There is no way to reverse this, and obviously, your units die when they reach 0 HP. This is why Defense and Dark affinity are so important, if your characters take too much damage from each cast of Scythe of Calamity, the max HP damage will quickly wear your team down. It also has Void Flash Claw, a rather powerful Mystic row attack that can inflict Terror and Death, and Wild Dance of Freezing Mist, which for this boss, is an extremely weak Cold spell (since it has very low MAG) that has a high delay. That attack is your chance to retaliate. Since the boss gets faster for each turn it gets, you can't take your time setting up like with other bosses with regeneration, buff up your two or three attackers as soon as possible and begin unleashing hell. Do everything you can to keep your attackers of choice alive. Should they fall, consider resetting on the spot. Don't neglect keeping your tanks and supports healthy though. You should also try to inflict Heavy, Silence, and defensive debuffs to reduce its defenses, which will help your attackers a lot.

When it hits the 60 and 30% HP marks, it's scripted to use Azure Shining Light to debuff your frontliners' stats. Once its HP hits the halfway mark, it switches to a different set of attacks. It now mainly uses Greatsword of Calamity, basically a stronger, but single target version of Scythe of Calamity. It also gains "Instant Death Attack", Half Moon Slash and Rasetsu Fist; the only attack it keeps from its first phase is Void Flash Claw. If its HP regenerates back to above half, Shredding's attack pattern switches back to the first phase. This second phase arguably makes the fight easier; while Greatsword of Calamity can technically target any slot, it has preference for leftmost slots, so as long as your tanks can take it (and you don't get too unlucky), your frailer characters in the rightmost slots will be a bit safer than during the first phase since they don't have to worry about being hit by Scythe of Calamity. Rasetsu Fist is probably the most dangerous attack during this phase, since the fact it ignores defense makes it difficult to survive once your characters' max HP has been reduced by Scythe/Greatsword of Calamity.

If you're having trouble dealing with the boss's max HP reducing attacks, 2 characters that can be very useful are Rumia and Eirin. Rumia can reduce all Dark damage received by 30% as long as she's in front, and provides some healing with Demarcation. Meanwhile, Eirin's Healing Limit Break allows her to counteract Shredding's max HP damage to a certain extent.
