megurumeku kakera sou hyakki yagyou aita tsudzura wasureta furishite onegai yo tamatebako ima furueru te wo kanda

Broken shards are shimmering; yes, it’s the Night Parade of 100 Demons[1] I’ll pretend to forget about the empty wicker boxes Give me now, your forbidden treasure[2] I bit your trembling hand

purizumu ranhanshashite wa terashiteta kitto ibushindeitanda kuronogurafu mottomo datte itta no nara sore wa mou oshimai yo

The prism was shining and refracting light The time display[3] was definitely smoking Though when you said that’s normal It was already done for

konjiki no kisetsu wa (taimu mashiin de) kidzukeba koeteita no sa kitto hitottobi attoiu ma no sokudo de (okizari da wa)

When I noticed it (from the time machine)[4] the gold-colored season had passed for sure All at once, in the blink of an eye (I’m leaving it behind)

kyou mo hi ga ochite (yoru ga fuketeiku) nodo wo kogashite (miwaku no torippu) fui ni yokogiru isshun dakedo natsukashii hi no egao gurasu sotto katamuketa

The sun sets again today (and the night wears on) It burns my throat (on a mesmerizing trip) Though only for a moment, it came to me suddenly The smile of the good old days I gently tilt my glass to drink

fukizarashi no mama nagareru kaze mo kizanda akashi wa kesenai kudakechitta toumeina tsuki daiji datta aikotoba

It remains exposed to the wind But even the flowing wind cannot erase the engraven testament that the broken, transparent moon is important too[5] That’s the password

koboreochinai you ni (sotto sotto) yozora ni kakageta nara sashikawasu kotoba sura shouki sura seijaku ni (kieteitta)

So that I don’t spill (gently, gently) If I take off into the night sky, I will exchange[6] In silence, without words or sobriety (they’ve gone away)

aa hi ga ochite (yoru ga fukete iku) kono mi wo moyasu (shikou no torippu) fui ni nagareru kawaita kawa wa aita gurasu mitashiteiku

Ah, the sun has set (and the night wears on) My body is on fire (on the most amazing trip) All of a sudden, the dried-up river flows to fill up the empty glass

hitotsu nonde wa dare no tame futatsu nonde wa oitekebori mittsu kazoeru jikan wa nai no

If you drink one, who’s it for? If you drink two, leave it all behind[7] There’s no time to count to three!

karamatte matte yo matte yo matte yo shogyoumujou tsuredatte datte datte datte shiroku someru (modoranai)

Tangle with me and wait and wait and wait, nothing lasts forever Even if, even if, even if you go with me, it’ll become white[8] (we won’t go back)

kohaku no toki (ukabeta kouri wa) tokeau you ni (mazari kietetta) zutto subete wa rasen no you ni kurikaeshiteku no darou ima hajikete hajimemashite no mata ashita (matanette) kitto ne dakara sabishikunai wa (wa ni natte) sayonara itoshii hito kidzukeba asahi ga noboru nokotta gurasu wo aketa

In order to blend together (the floating ice cubes) the amber times (have melted and mixed in) I guess everything will always repeat like a spiral, I want to burst right now Nice to meet you, see you tomorrow (see you later, I said) I’m sure I will, that’s why I’m not lonely! (become a loop) Goodbye, my love When I noticed it, the morning sun was rising I empty what was left in my glass

Notes[edit]

  1. During the Night Parade of 100 Demons, the Oni come out to kill or kidnap humans who do not stay in their homes. Suika, however, does not kill or kidnap humans and simply prefers to drink instead. Suika is also known as the Tiny Night Parade of 100 Demons.
  2. More specifically a Tamatebako, which is the Japanese equivalent of Pandora’s box. The legend is that a fisherman saved a turtle’s life, and was rewarded with a visit Otohime’s palace. He eventually got homesick, and Otohime allowed him to go home. Otohime gave him a box and told him to never open it. The man returned home but was saddened to learn that 300 years had passed and everything had changed. In despair he opened the box, and instantly grew old. Otohime had sealed away the fisherman’s old age in the box
  3. The sing specifies a chronograph.
  4. I believe this song is comparing alcohol to the time machine contraption in the previous stanza.
  5. Suika’s theme is Broken Moon, so she may be referring to herself as such.
  6. Unsure what is being “exchanged” here. It could be exchanging words or fighting.
  7. The Oitekebori is youkai who lurks in the canals yells at passing fisherman to leave their stuff and get out. If the fisherman doesn’t leave their stuff, they will drag the fisherman into the canal and drown them. The term has come to mean “to abandon everything and run”.
  8. Not sure what the song means by becoming white (lit. will be dyed white). Could it be a term for getting drunk?
