katari tsunagu futatsu no kage wasurete hiraku kuroge no hito sunatsubu no ame mai chiru yume kurokami no mitsu shitatari

The two shadows spin their tale. Forgetting, I uncover the black-haired one. The grains of sand rain down in this dream And the black-haired one’s nectar… drips down.

hana to odoru ukabi tsudzuku kokonotsu no sora yuuyami no ame tsutanai yubi to shiroi unaji mada tsudzuku yume tsunaida

I dance with the flowers, and continue to float. Evening rain falls from the September sky. My clumsy fingers, and the white nape of your neck… The dream continues. We’re fastened together.

yomichi odoru (myon) itsutsu no kage (myon) utakata no yume (myon) sora wo nagashimete tsumetai ame (myon) ajisai no mae (myon) yume de mita ano ko to sure chigau

The five shadows (Myon!) Dance in the street at night (Myon!) During this transient dream. (Myon!) Flowing through the sky… Cold rain falls (Myon!) Before the hydrangeas. (Myon!) I pass by the girl I saw in my dream.

katari tsunagu futatsu no pen wasurete hiraku yume no tobari sakazuki tsutai ochiru shizuku hitonatsu no you ni funatsu no

The two pens spin their tale. Forgetting, I open the dream’s curtains. The drops trace down the saké cup. My second summer’s love is like the first.[1]

yume mi odoru karamitsuku toki shirokami ochiru mizu no kokochi tsutanai yubi wa michi wo nazori mada tsudzuku yume shirushita

I dance in a dream, with time twined ‘round me. My white hair falls, and I feel the water. My clumsy fingers trace along the path. The dream continues. They left their mark.

hana to odoru ukabi tsudzuku itsutsu no yoake shiroku nigoru tsutanai yubi de en wo egaku yume da mata yume tsunaide

I dance with the flowers, and continue to float. The fifth daybreak is clouded white. With my clumsy fingers, I trace a circle. It’s a dream. I’m linked once more to a dream.

katari tsunagu futatsu no kage wasurete hiraku kuroge no hito sunatsubu no ame mai chiru yume furi odoru made tsunaida

The two shadows spin their tale. Forgetting, I uncover the black-haired one. The grains of sand rain down in this dream. Until we dance down, we’re tied together…

yomichi odoru (myon) itsutsu no kage (myon) utakata no yume (myon) doko ka kiete iku tsumetai ame (myon) ajisai no mae (myon) yume de mita ano ko wa mou inai

The five shadows (Myon!) Dance in the street at night (Myon!) During this transient dream. (Myon!) They disappeared somewhere… Cold rain falls (Myon!) Before the hydrangeas. (Myon!) The girl I saw in my dream isn’t here anymore.

Notes[edit]

  1. It’s likely that ひと夏 [‘hitonatsu’ – One summer] is a shortened form of ひと夏の恋 [‘hitonatsu no koi’ – One summer’s love].
