Mei & Mai (めい&まい) are 6-year-old identical twin sisters who were orphaned at birth. They are known as the "Death Twins" and they have appear in all of the Seihou Project games. Their age as of Kioh Gyoku is 5, and in Banshiryuu they're a year older.

General Information[edit]

Mei and Mai first appeared in as the second stage boss of Shuusou Gyoku, where after they appeared as a playable character in Kioh Gyoku. About 7 years later when Banshiryuu had C74 version release, they appeared as the 3rd Extra Stage boss in a boss rush.

Personality[edit]

Mei and Mai have a nonsensical feeling associated with them, and thus their speech is often fragmented. Since they perform actions without thinking of before-and-after consequences, they like to come plunging in with speed.

Machinery[edit]

Mei's aircraft is smaller than Mai's and it uses lasers. Among gameplay, the timing of the rapid-firing lasers seems to be a little fast. Mai's aircraft is larger than Mei's, and it does body slams. She performs kamikaze attacks without treating her aircraft as an important thing, so when she hits, her aircraft becomes worn out.

In Kioh Gyoku Mei and Mai have the speed-oriented-type vessel "Maelstrom", which can split into two.

Character Basis[edit]

Name[edit]

Theirs names are Mei and Mai. Mei (めい) could mean "niece" and Mai (まい) could mean "dance", although there's more meanings to these two readings; they're likely to just be ordinary Japanese given names. Mai has exactly the same name as Mai from the Touhou Project, except Seihou's Mai has uses hiragana and Mai from Touhou uses katakana.

Design[edit]

There are two images of Mei and Mai in the information box left from Banshiryuu. The girl on the left is Mei and the girl on the right is Mai.

Mei
Mei's design in Shuusou Gyoku shows that she has dark blue eyes and green hair with a ponytail (with a white ribbon) to armpit-length. She wears black loose clothings with short sleeves and a short necklace. In Kioh Gyoku she has a pink ribbon tied in he hair instead, her ponytail is neck-length and has long sleeves. In her cut-in, she possesses a scythe.
In Banshiryuu, her hair is tied into a short ponytail which has grown to shoulder-length, has a yellow ribbon to hold her hair and has what appears to be white fur around the top and bottom of her dress. She possesses a purple box with a "?" written on it. It appears somewhat similar to the question block from the Mario Series.
Mai
Mai's design in Shuusou Gyoku shows that she has dark blue eyes and has green hair with twin pigtails She wears black loose clothings that resembles a schoolgirl's outfit shorter sleeves. In Kioh Gyoku, two pink ribbons are used to tie her hair and has long sleeves and in Banshiryuu she has long yellow ribbons. Also in Banshiryuu, she possesses a thorned ball, has black shoes and has what appears to be white fur around the top and bottom of her dress.

Story[edit]

Mei & Mai in SSG
Shuusou Gyoku

In Shuusou Gyoku, in order to live, they undertook a request by the Cactus Company (an investigation of what is called the "Other Dimension"). Both were sent as a pair to assassinate VIVIT, but were easily defeated.

Banshiryuu

In the Extra Stage, Mei and Mai appears over a city in their aircrafts and appears as one of the many "evil beings". Their only expression is "I don't like you", or expressing hatred towards Gyoku.

Relationships[edit]

Mei and Mai are twin sisters. Due to the sensitivity of their single-digit age, they fight with their breaths tightly matched in careful good play of teamwork. They keep the alternatives of kamikaze attacks and lasers up their sleeves.

Minor Relationships[edit]

Muse

A relation with Muse is unclear. In the music comments of Banshiryuu, it was stated that Mei and Mai "don't have any direct relation to Muse".

Gyoku

Mei and Mai simply hate Gyoku. For why they do is unknown.
