ひとまず誤解と禍根を解いたトラブルメーカー達は
決闘後の友情を深める、神聖なる儀式に臨んでいる。

The Moriya Shrine.
After a violent danmaku fight,
the troublemakers managed to correct their misunderstandings and defeat the source of the evil. Afterwards they attended a sacred ceremony to deepen the bonds of their friendship.

神奈子「うむ、噂には聞いていたが太宰府の梅酒はうめえ！
冷えた身体が温まるね」

Kanako “Hmm, I’ve heard about it before, but this plum liquor from Dazaifu really is delicious!
It warms up my chilled body.

命廟「私はもっと冷えましたけどね」
|
Mitama “I feel like it cooled me down even more.”
|
諏訪子「飲み方が足りないんじゃないのー？
ほれ、みんなもっと景気良く一杯」
|
Suwako “You just haven't had enough yet, have you?
C’mon, let’s talk more and drink with everybody.”

早苗「い、いえ、私は薬子さんの元気ドリンクの方が」
|
Sanae “N-no, I’ll take Kusuko’s energy drink instead.”
|
薬子「すごいです。禍公の飛梅を混ぜた元気ドリンク、
すっぱくて飲めた物ではないと思いましたが、なんたる美味」

Kusuko “This is incredible. I thought that my energy drink would turn out sour when mixed with Lady Magakimi's Tobiume, but this is a wonderful flavor!"

命廟「今時の若い子達は梅酒とかなかなか飲んでくれませんからね。」

Mitama “Young people these days aren’t used to drinking plum liquor, are they?”

命廟「品種改良も頑張りました。
神様になって時間だけはたっぷりありますので。」

Mitama “I've had a lot of free time since I became a god,
so I've worked hard on the selective cultivation.”

命廟「しあと杏も、多少梅酒にしても沢山います」

Mitama “You can also turn apricots into pretty much the same liquor.”

早苗「あら？ 今何かお酒の中から声が…」

Sanae “What? Was that a voice from the alcohol...”

薬子「はうう、導命樹まで喧嘩を売りに行かなくて良かった。
あのひよっ子が、まさかこれほどの大物になっていたなんてえ」

Kusuko “Whew, it's good we didn't take the fight too close to the Life-Guiding Tree.
To think that this little girl could become someone so important.”

荒神薬子とは、彼女の周りの人間や妖怪達によって、
長い年月のうちに間違って定着した名前である。
彼女の本名は「安楽神薬子」。
人間だった頃の命廟が死亡した時、
その肉体は薬子が祀られていた「安楽寺」に葬られた。
その寺が天神信仰によって乗っ取られた結果が、
現在の太宰府天満宮なのだ。

"Aragami no Kusuko" is, according to the people and youkai around her, a name that got stuck to her by mistake over many years.
Her true name is “Anrakugami no Kusuko”.
At the time Mitama died back when she was human,
her body was buried in the "Anraku Temple" where Kusuko had been worshiped.
As a result of being overrun by Tenjin faith,
what was once Kusuko's temple became the Daizaifu Tenmangu.

薬子「うう、由緒正しき夜叉…薬師如来である私が
こんなポッと出の人間に…くやしい！」

Kusuko “Ugh, for an honorable and long-standing yaksha... for a yakushi nyorai such as myself,
to be upstaged by a simple human like this... how frustrating!”

命廟「信仰の乗っ取り、
という意味では貴方も仏の名を騙っていますがね。」
|
Mitama “Although you're taking advantage of the Buddha's name in the same way,
in the sense of hijacking faith.”
|
命廟「私も生前は、
安楽寺には本当の薬師如来が居るのだと思っていました。」
|
Mitama “When I was alive,
I also believed that there was a true yakushi nyorai at the Anraku temple.”
|
命廟「無知な当時の人間にとっては、
恐ろしい妖怪、有り難い神様、全てが等しく信仰の対象でしたね」

Mitama “To the oblivious humans of the time,
the frightening youkai as well as the benevolent Gods were both objects of their faith.
|
神奈子「時代が進むにつれて、
神様は混じり合い、グレーな存在になっていく」
|
Kanako “As time goes on,
the gods become mixed together, becoming a gray existence.”
|
諏訪子「どこの神話も同じようなもんだね」
|
Suwako “The same thing is happening to gods everywhere.”
|
神奈子「そう言えばタケミカヅチの野郎が持ってた剣、
去年山に来た大天使の剣にそっくりだった」
|
Kanako “Now that you remind me, that sword which that bastard Takemikazuchi brought to me
resembles the sword that archangel brought to the mountain last year.”

命廟「共に軍神としての側面を持つミカヅチとミカエル。
音韻の類似以外にも同一説の根拠は確かにあります」

Mitama “Both Michael and Mikazuchi have a War God aspect.
Aside from the similarity in their names, their legends definitely have the same origins.”

| 命廟と薬子、神奈子と諏訪子のケースを挙げるまでもなく、
元々その地で信仰されていた神様がより強大な神話によって変質、
あるいは押し潰されてしまう、そんなケースも少なくはない。
完全に存在を忘れられ、幻想となる事すら叶わなかった、
幾多の古い神々の事を考えると
当時を知る神奈子などは、柄にもなく胸が痛むのである。

There was no need for the case between Kusuko and Mitama to become something like the case between Kanako and Suwako.
It isn’t rare for gods that were worshipped since old times to be weakened or even crushed by some new, stronger legend.
Kanako feels a slight pain in her heart when she thinks
about the myriad gods that had their existence forgotten yet didn’t even became a fantasy character.

早苗「私も、すぐに忘れられないよう、
強く人々の心に残る神様にならなければいけないのですね！

Sanae “I need to become a strong god in the people’s hearts
so I won't be forgotten quickly.”
|
早苗「よし、では早速張り切って行きますよー！
まずは誰が見ても私と分かる決めポーズの開発から…」

Sanae “Okay, so let’s go with full power!
First I need to develop a signature pose that let everyone know who I am…”

諏訪子「ん？ 早苗ったら酔っ払って。いつの間にお酒を」
|
Suwako “Huh? Even Sanae is drunk. When did she drink the liquor?”

薬子「水みたいにグイグイ飲んでましたよ。
『この元気ドリンクももっと美味しくなりますね！』って」

Kusuko “She drank it as if it was water.
She even said "This energy drink became more delicious!"

命廟「…太宰府名物最高級飛梅
…美味過ぎるのもいささか問題がありますね」
|
Mitama “...Dazaifu’s specialty, the best Tobiume
...can be somewhat problematic because it is too delicious.

|
マーケティングも重要な要素ではあるが、
長く信仰されるか否かは、やはり中身で決まるもの。
守矢神社から真に第三の神様が誕生するのは、
少なく見積もっても、まだ数十年はかかりそうである――。

While marketing is an essential component for a religion, what really decides whether or not people will believe for a long time is the essence of that religion.
As for the the emergence of the third god from Moriya Shrine,
it'll likely take a few more decades at the very least.
