Notes
- ↑ Refers to "The Ballroom Tragedy", a film from 1905.
- ↑ Refers to both the musical group and the song by Michael Jackson.
- ↑ 3.0 3.1 Obvious play on the name of the game.
- ↑ 4.0 4.1 発謎 hatsumei = homophone of 発明 (invention, cleverness)
- ↑ A pun on the phrase "lie detector", as well as the title of Violet Detector, as violets and lilacs are both purple flowers.
- ↑ 6.0 6.1 薄謎 hakumei = homophone of 薄命 (misfortune, short life) and 薄明 (twilight).
- ↑ 7.0 7.1 懸謎 kenmei = homophone of 懸命 (eager, with utmost effort).
- ↑ "Cryssile" is a portmanteau of "crystal" and "missile".
- ↑ 9.0 9.1 昏謎 konmei = homophone of 昏迷 (unconsciousness, confusion) and 混迷 (chaos). The fact that "comatose" was selected as its translation is a subtle reference to Comatose Chaos.
- ↑ Refers to a dreamcatcher. Also a reference to the game's development team.
- ↑ A corruption of the Stage 5 title, as well as the Japanese title of the game.
- ↑ 12.0 12.1 黎謎 reimei = homophone of 黎明 (daybreak, dawn), as well as an anagram of 命令 meirei (order, as in "Ship Captain's Orders"). The character 黎 in isolation means "black".
- ↑ A pun on "memento mori" (a Latin phrase roughly meaning "remember that you will die") and "memory".
- ↑ Based on "Ship Captain's Orders" (船長さんの命令), a Japanese equivalent of Simon Says, from which this spell card's mechanics are derived.
- ↑ 15.0 15.1 雷謎 raimei = homophone of 雷鳴 (thunderclap). The character 雷 (thunder) is also present in the Japanese term for a land mine: jirai (地雷).
- ↑ A pun on "Minesweeper".
- ↑ Aside from the aforementioned usage of the word for "thunderous", the idiom 一触即発 is used to refer to a figuratively explosive situation.
- ↑ 18.0 18.1 運謎 unmei = homophone of 運命 (fate, destiny). The character 運 is also present in 運動 undou (exercise, movement).
- ↑ Double Dutch refers to playing simultaneously with two jump ropes swinging in opposite directions. But Mamo doubles the Double Dutch...
- ↑ Refers to both nine-tailed fox spirits and the cat o' nine tails, a flail used for physical punishment.
- ↑ 21.0 21.1 21.2 21.3 21.4 21.5 21.6 21.7 The 8th spell varies depending on the player character used. The four different spells, when put together, recall the story of Mamo's past based on her given profile and a tale written by Katsushika Hokusai. The names written on the four different gems she uses for these four spells correspond to the names of the identities Mamo took on in the past.
- ↑ 22.0 22.1 Daji is the favoured consort of Chinese emperor King Zhou of Shang, infamous for her sadism and for seducing King Zhou to the extent that he neglected his royal affairs. She is often portrayed as a malevolent fox spirit; and Mamo is written to have possessed her.
- ↑ 23.0 23.1 Daji was executed, and Mamo fled to ancient India and became Lady Kayou, a concubine of the crown prince Banzoku.
- ↑ 24.0 24.1 After Lady Kayou was defeated, Mamo fled back to China and possessed Bao Si, concubine of the Zhou dynasty King You.
- ↑ 25.0 25.1 Mamo then arrived in Japan as Tamamo-no-Mae, favoured courtesan of Emperor Toba. After causing grave illness in him, she was found out as an evil fox spirit, and when killed she her body turned into the killing stone Sessho-seki. Ultimately a Buddhist monk named Genno Shinsho pacified the spirit and neutered the killing stone.
- ↑ 26.0 26.1 Aside from referring to her tales of possession above, the spell's name and style both mirror Mokou's "Possessed by Phoenix".
- ↑ 冥謎 meimei = homophone of 冥々 (darkness) and, by extension, Meimei.
- ↑ A play on LoLK's Extra Stage title, "Evel Trinity". Also a pun on "kitsune", "kit" (a baby fox), and "trinity".
