IN Stage Review

「永夜抄」のステージとボスを識者の方々に振り返ってもらったぞ。今回のゲストは妖夢さん。

A team of experts recall the stages and bosses from Imperishable Night. Youmu serves as guest this time.

博麗霊夢 :博麗神社の巫女さん。毎日が飲茶。

夜中なんだから、そりゃ虫も飛んでるわよね。

1: It's a given bugs would be flying around at night.

Marisa


一寸の虫にもなんとやらと言うが、弾幕が全部虫ってのはどうなんだ。蚊柱に顔から突っ込んで口に入るのを想像してちょっとイヤだな。

1: I can deal with a single bug, but not so much using them as danmaku. Just imagine running into a swarm of mosquitoes with your mouth open... Gives me the creeps.

まさか私たちが妖怪退治に出かける事になるとは……。なんだか今日はテンションが高いので、どんどん斬りますよ。

8: I never thought we would go out hunting youkai. I was in high spirits for some reason, so I cut through quite a few.

ZUN

なんで虫になったんだっけな……。ホタルは秋の虫じゃないんですが、虫も居てもいいんじゃないかな、くらいで。まだ1面をあまり重要視していなかったので適当な理由だとは思うんですが、「妖々夢」と違って背景が暗かったので弾幕映えして楽だったことは覚えてます。

Why did I make her a bug anyway? Fireflies don't come out in the fall, but I guess I figured there was no harm in it. I sort of threw things together for Stage 1 since it didn't have any real bearing on the story, but I do remember liking how much easier it was to make the danmaku stand out since it used a dark background unlike most of PCB's.

9: I'm glad she restricted my vision so I didn't have to see any of her sorry excuses for danmaku.

Marisa


夜なんだから見通しは悪いんだが、圧迫されるのは好きじゃないな。やっぱ自由に動き回れないと。

3: I expected having poor vision at night, but I don't like it being fenced in because of it. I don't want anything holdin' me in.

夜雀とはまた不吉な敵ですが、言われてみれば幽霊も全然負けてませんよね。それより幽々子様の食欲が刺激されてしまったようで……。

7: The night sparrow made for an ominous foe, but she was no match for phantoms. I was more troubled by Lady Yuyuko's sudden hunger pangs...

これも夜だからいろいろと暗いという発想からですが、ちゃんとした和風の妖怪が出てくるのはやや珍しいですね。暗闇がやりたかったので、弾幕とは別のもので攻撃してみたかったんです。ああいう亜流な攻撃は、作るのは苦労するけどプレイしている側としては対処は楽なんです。

I wanted to keep things dark to match the night theme, but properly Japanese-style youkai are fairly rare. I wanted to have the darkness itself be an attack along with the danmaku. That sort of weak alternative attack was hard to make but easy to handle when playing.

人里を隠すってのはなんだかすごいけど、紫にはまるで通じてないみたいだし、弾幕も大したことなかったわ。

3: It was impressive how she could hide the Human Village, but Yukari didn't seem fazed at all, and her danmaku was mediocre, too.

半獣って変身できるんだよな。私も魔法で変身できるようになるだろうか。でもやっぱリスクとかあるんだろうな、変身。

4: These therianthropes can transform, y'know. I could probably transform myself too, with magic, but that's pretty risky.

ある意味私と似たような、半獣半人の相手でしたが、幽々子様のお腹は空く一方。はてさてどうしたものでしょう……。

8: She was like me in a sense, being made up of two halves, but it seemed she just made Lady Yuyuko hungrier. I wonder why...

ZUN

このあたりから作り方が今風になってる感じがしますね。より東方っぽいというか。ここのキャラクターにいろいろな設定があって、裏でも繋がっていて、シューティング外でも意味がある。そうするのが「永夜抄」のテーマでもありました。ボスの弾幕が表現しづらくて、どうしたものかと悩みました。

The process I used in making this stage is like how I do it now, very Touhou-like. Due to her character backstory, her role extends far outside the game. That was another theme I had for Imperishable Night, but it was pretty difficult trying to demonstrate those other facets in their danmaku.

弾幕ごっこと一緒に妖怪退治が流行ったせいで、こんな事になるとはね。魔理沙には悪いけど、私だけじゃなくて紫も居るのに勝ち目あるのかしら。

2: This happened because danmaku battles and youkai extermination caught on. No offense to her, but I have no idea why Marisa thought she could win against not only me but Yukari as well.

Marisa


霊夢とやりあうのはゾッとしないが、ルールの範囲内でならまあ、なんとかなるってもんだ。本気にならないうちに、勝負を決めたいぜ。

9: Dueling with Reimu can get crazy, but the rules of danmaku give me a fighting chance. The trick is to win before she gets serious.

あとで聞いた話では、魔理沙さんが出す星を食べた人もいるらしいです。幽々子様も召し上がればよかったのに。

7: I heard after our battle that someone had eaten Marisa's stars. I'm certain that Lady Yuyuko would have liked to know then.

ZUN

主人公が敵で出てくるって定番じゃないですか。満を持して3作目でやったわけです。本当は4人ボスを出したかったんですが、時間が無くて2人になっちゃいました。パチュリーみたいに弾だけならいいけど、絵も音楽も用意しないといけないですからね。実装されていれば、紅魔組は妖夢が、冥界組では咲夜が出てたかも。

Having the main characters show up as rivals is standard; I did it in the third game even. I actually wanted to have four different bosses, but a lack of time forced me down to two. I could've done something like with Patchouli, but I would've had to make additional music and artwork as well. Had I been able to implement everything as planned, then the Scarlet Team would likely have fought Youmu and the Netherworld Team would likely have fought Sakuya.

荒事担当なんて言われてたけど、腕っ節担当じゃなくて小細工担当なのかな。あんま効果ないことばっかだわ。

4: For being a bodyguard, she's more about trickery than physical strength. Not that any of her tricks worked that well.

Marisa


この辺まで来ると異変の犯人のことしか考えないんで、犯人の一味程度じゃ印象が薄くなるよな。こいつの師匠の方が気になる。

6: I'm really only thinkin' about who the culprit could be, and she doesn't give me the impression she is. Her master is the more likely suspect.

今の幽々子様の前に兎なんか出したらもう……。今晩のメニューが決まったので悩まなくていいですけど。

8: And then they sent some sort of rabbit to fight Lady Yuyuko... At least there was no need to think about what to serve for dinner.

ZUN

縦スクロールシューティングなのに、背景は奥に進んでいく。そういうおかしなことをやりたかったんです。作業量は少ないけど効果的なやり方ができたかな? ボスの弾幕を作るのが難しくて、いくら弾を出しても難易度が上がらなくって。弾が消える部分は敵がサービスしてくれてるようにしか見えなくてね(笑)。

I wanted to try having the scrolling of the background different from the game screen. It was simple to implement but I think it was effective. The boss's danmaku was hard to make, since it wouldn't get harder no matter how many bullets I added. Making them disappear only gave the impression she was trying to give the player a break, haha.

輝夜の下についてるけど、実力はこいつの方があるんじゃない? 月の奴ってのはいろいろ面倒だわ。

8: Isn't she stronger than Kaguya even though she's supposed to be beneath her? These moon people are a pain on several levels.

Marisa


すごい魔法を知ってそうなんだが、悔しいけどまだ手に余りそうなんだよな。相手の自由を制限する弾幕が多い気がする。

9: It seems like she knows some incredible magic; way better than mine, as much as I hate to admit it. Seems like she's got a lot of danmaku that fences you in.

Youmu


「腐りかけが一番美味しい」とは幽々子様の弁ですが、本当はあの月人たちは腐っていたのでしょうか。うーん、穢れかけ?

7: Lady Yuyuko often says slight additions make food taste best, but the Lunarians do not seem to agree. Maybe they see condiments as impurities.

ZUN

「これ以上のボリュームは作れないよ」というのが「永夜抄」なので、もうこれをやった後は毎回ボリュームを気にしなくていいなって。もう1回ラスボスが来るっていう前提だったので、あまり難しくできなかったです。輝夜が居る事は決まってたから、そういう既にいるキャラじゃ無くて新しいキャラを作りたかったんですよ。

I said I wouldn't make a game with more content than Imperishable Night, but whenever I play it I stop being so concerned about it. But having another last boss is just so hard I haven't done it since. Since Kaguya being a boss was a given, I wanted to make a new character as wel.

例のお宝に頼ってばかりだと思ったら、引き籠り中に考えてたお題って……泣けるわね。せいぜい楽しんであげなくちゃ。

7: I was wondering why she was only relying on the treasures when I realized it was what she came up with during her imprisonment. I felt so sorry for her that I wanted her to have as much fun as possible.

「龍の頸の五色の玉」って、オカルトボールのことじゃないのか? 今度集めて持ってってやるよ。7つあるけどな。

7: Isn't the Five-Colored Jewel from the Dragon's Neck an Occult Ball? I better bring them to her next time, even if there are 7 of them.

Youmu


幽々子様が見るなと言ったのですが、この時けっこう観てしまったんですよね、月。だからあの後テンションがおかしくなってしまったのですね。

8: Lady Yuyuko warned me not to look at the moon, but I did for most of the time. Perhaps that's why I've been out-of-sorts since.

ZUN

ストーリー全体でみると、2回最終面をやる意味はあまり無かったなと(笑)。輝夜の弾幕は楽でした。ネタは5つほどあるので、あとはもうどの順番で出すかだけでね。でも最後だけは決まってて、「蓬莱の玉の枝」の「玉」を「弾」として表現する(笑)。キャラクターが最初にあるだけで、こんなに発想が楽になるなんてと、楽しく作れました。

There was no real story-related reason behind having two last stages, haha. Kaguya's danmaku was easy to make since I already had five inspirations. All I had to decide was the order of appearance. The last one was obviously the "Bullet Branch of Hourai." I had to go for the wordplay between tama (玉 - jewel) and tama (弾 - bullet) there, haha. Her being an existing character made fleshing her out both fun and easy.

こいつも引き籠り? まあ外の世界から見れば私たち全員が引き籠りみたいなもんだけど、出られないのとでないのは違うわ。

8: She's a shut-in, too? Well, I guess we're all shut-ins from the POV of the outside world, although it's not like we want to be.

Marisa


弾幕=火力、という単純な感じが個人的には好感だ。引き籠りはどうかと思うが、まあ図書館から出ない奴とかも居るしな。

9: She's another one who simply thinks danmaku is "fire"power so she's cool in my book. Being a shut-in is no big deal; at least she usually goes outside unlike some library-dwelling witch I know.

Youmu


死なないということは、白玉楼には来ないわけですから、珍しい人に会ったんですね。なんか焼き鳥が食べたくなります。

7: She's a rather unusual one since she cannot die, but that means she cannot go to Hakugyokurou. For some reason, I wanted to eat grilled chicken afterwards.

ZUN

今回は敵が不老不死なので、弾のネタにも困らない。やりたい放題です。最初に決まったのは「リザレクション」で、スペルカードを使うたびに死んでは生き返る。それを毎回やりたくてね。「永夜抄」あたりでゲームとして完成した結果、世界観を見せるようなやり方から、ストーリーが動くような見せ方がメインになっていくんです。

Since the boss was immortal, I had no trouble finding inspiration for danmaku and could throw caution to the wind. I decided on her resurrecting from the start, and how she would come back to life after each spell card. I want to do something like that every time. As a result of finishing Imperishable Night, I shifted my main methodology from revealing more of the world setting to showing developments in a story.
