Spell Card 1
怪奇「釣瓶落としの怪」(Kaiki "Tsurube-otoshi no Kai")
Horror "Tsurube-Otoshi Apparition"
Owner
Kisume
Stage 1 — Hard
Spell Card Pattern Description
Kisume stays on the top of the screen, moving only horizontally as she vaguely follows the player in hops. She will shoot an extremely large laser downwards whenever she stops moving, and produce large cyan bullets around her in random clumps that stick in place and eventually fall.
Note: If Kisume is defeated while there is a laser on the screen, the laser will continue to move normally in the stage even after the spell card has finished.
Editor's ZUN-style Comment
A demonic rain that burns everything it touches.
Behind her sweet exterior hides a sinister creature.

Spell Card 2
怪奇「釣瓶落としの怪」(Kaiki "Tsurube-otoshi no Kai")
Horror "Tsurube-Otoshi Apparition"
Owner
Kisume
Stage 1 — Lunatic
Spell Card Pattern Description
Very similar to its hard version, Kisume shoots three lasers at the same time instead of one.
Note: If Kisume is defeated while there are lasers on the screen, the lasers will continue to move normally in the stage even after the spell card has finished.
Editor's ZUN-style Comment
The storm is larger now, leaving her with nothing left to hide.
Wouldn't that wooden bucket burn up?

Boss Spell Card #1[edit]

Spell Card 3
罠符「キャプチャーウェブ」(Wanafu "Kyapuchaa Webu")
Trap Sign "Capture Web"
Owner
Yamame Kurodani
Stage 1 — Easy
Spell Card Pattern Description
Yamame raises her left hand, from which she shoots 6 thin lines of random bullets, with two of the lines aimed around the player. The lines will then quickly go in the direction they came from, and at the same time in a direction decided by the wave's number, slow down and then break formation, spreading in that direction. On odd waves, a line shot directly up will go diagonally down and right (marked by purple color), and on even waves that same line will go down and left (marked by green). Yamame will then move once, vaguely following the player, and perform the next wave.
Editor's ZUN-style Comment
Spiders take great care of their webs. If not constantly maintained, they would find it difficult to catch their food.
This web looks rather simple though. Fitting for an equally simple youkai.

Spell Card 4
罠符「キャプチャーウェブ」(Wanafu "Kyapuchaa Webu")
Trap Sign "Capture Web"
Owner
Yamame Kurodani
Stage 1 — Normal
Spell Card Pattern Description
Very similar to its Easy version, with 8 lines instead.
Editor's ZUN-style Comment
Where does a spider youkai get its silk? Do they buy it from someone back in the village?
This silk may catch small animals, but it doesn't trouble any real opponent.

Spell Card 5
蜘蛛「石窟の蜘蛛の巣」(Kumo "Sekkutsu no Kumo no Su")
Spider "Cave Spider's Nest"
Owner
Yamame Kurodani
Stage 1 — Hard
Spell Card Pattern Description
Very similar to "Capture Web", with 12 lines instead.
Editor's ZUN-style Comment
The spider's nest is a much more dangerous place.
Quick and meaningful thinking will do you good.

Spell Card 6
蜘蛛「石窟の蜘蛛の巣」(Kumo "Sekkutsu no Kumo no Su")
Spider "Cave Spider's Nest"
Owner
Yamame Kurodani
Stage 1 — Lunatic
Spell Card Pattern Description
Similar to its Hard version, with 16 lines instead.
Editor's ZUN-style Comment
The cave spider's nest. Not to be confused with those that come from the mountains.
Keep sharp in the face of danger, the spider has you right where it wants you.

Boss Spell Card #2[edit]

Spell Card 7
瘴符「フィルドミアズマ」(Shoufu "Firudo Miazuma")
Miasma Sign "Filled Miasma" [1]
Owner
Yamame Kurodani
Stage 1 — Easy
Spell Card Pattern Description
Yamame raises her left hand and produces from it a dense spiral of medium sized bullets (red on odd waves, purple on even ones), started in different, but static, rotations. Once Yamame finishes shooting, the spiral will expand outwards, and halfway through their path, the odd half of the bullets will stay still. While the other half of the bullets leaves the screen, the ones that stayed behind will be quickly chosen at random times and shot back to pass through Yamame's hand and expand outwards again. Purple waves form in a faster and tighter spiral than red waves, so they have different formations.
Editor's ZUN-style Comment
The air has become heavy with disease.
Spiders don't have power over such things usually, but this spider is different.

Spell Card 8
瘴符「フィルドミアズマ」(Shoufu "Firudo Miazuma")
Miasma Sign "Filled Miasma" [1]
Owner
Yamame Kurodani
Stage 1 — Normal
Spell Card Pattern Description
Very similar to its easy version, with more layers in the spiral.
Editor's ZUN-style Comment
Toxic haze that strikes fast and without warning.
A youkai with power over sickness could also be a powerful healing tool. She seems a little too carefree for a doctor, though.

Screenshot
Spell Card 9
瘴気「原因不明の熱病」(Shouki "Gen'in Fumei no Netsubyou")
Miasma "Unexplained Fever" [1]
Owner
Yamame Kurodani
Stage 1 — Hard
Spell Card Pattern Description
Similar to "Filled Miasma". At the same time as Yamame makes the spiral, two smaller spirals appear near the top corners of the screen, behaving the same as the central one. These ones finish forming faster, but they make their first expansion at the same time as the bigger spiral.
Editor's ZUN-style Comment
Deep caves often contain lethal gases, much to the dismay of many birds.
Fevers were once a sign of an encroaching death. Now they are only minor inconveniences.

Spell Card 10
瘴気「原因不明の熱病」(Shouki "Gen'in Fumei no Netsubyou")
Miasma "Unexplained Fever" [1]
Owner
Yamame Kurodani
Stage 1 — Lunatic
Spell Card Pattern Description
Very similar to its Hard version.
Editor's ZUN-style Comment
The spider youkai's finest poison. A bite could be fatal if not treated quickly.
Can you spot the guest appearance?

Notes[edit]

  1. 1.0 1.1 1.2 1.3 Miasma are the way diseases were believed to be transmitted - odors and "bad airs" coming from fermenting organic matter and from other fetid objects.
