Touhou Chireiden ~ Subterranean Hatred (東方地霊殿 ~ Subterranean Hatred, lit. "Eastern Palace of the Earth Spirits") is supposed to be an unofficial "Phantasm Stage" for Subterranean Animism (the eleventh official game in the Touhou Project, created by "everyone from the Red Cucumber thread" (赤胡瓜スレのみんな) on 2ch, presumably a number of anonymous people working together across the Internet to create this game, which was created for Touhou Danmakufu. The game introduces the fan-made character Mitori Kawashiro.

Gameplay

The game is only a single stage, culminating with a boss battle against Mitori. The game is meant to simulate Subterranean Animism, so extra lives are attained through collecting life pieces, and it is possible to autocollect items by filling the graze counter.

Name and Concept

The game is supposed to represent a Phantasm Stage of the game Subterranean Animism as it highly mimics "ZUN's style" with the graphics, music, and characters. The scripts for the bullets are copied from Concealed the Conclusion. The idea of a Phantasm Stage came from Perfect Cherry Blossom as it is a "harder version" of the Extra Stage of Subterranean Animism. The word "Hatred" likely reflects the character Mitori Kawashiro, who hates both humans and kappa, even though she's a hybrid of both.

In the original version, the images of Marisa and Yuugi are not self-made and was taken from Subterranean Animism; the distribution version replaced Yuugi's cut-in with a fanmade image that resemples her outfit on the promotional art for Subterranean Animism. It is unknown if ZUN is aware of this game.
