憑依華 = Spirit Possession or just Possession?

I noticed that there's been some changes back and forth in how 憑依華 is interpreted in the music titles. It looks like there are two alternatives proposed at the moment:

  • Spirit Possession Flowers (e.g. Spirit Possession Flowers Yet to Bud)
  • Possession Flower (e.g. Possession Flower Yet to Bud)

It might be worth discussing this a bit. Personally, I prefer Spirit Possession Flowers. This is because 憑依華 is a direct reference to the game's Japanese title, which we've translated as 'Spirit Possession Flowers.' Does anyone else have any ideas? Biggest Dreamer (talk)

I agree this is probably worth discussion. Given the context of the game, I'm not sure that "Spirit Possession" would be the appropriate term gien that itis other people doing perfect possession on other people. Whether this is worth changing the Japanese Title translation or not is another topic. For reference, on the Touhou Patch Center, they have the Japanese title translated as Eastern Flowers of Possession --DTM (talk) 08:35, 13 January 2018 (UTC)
I prefer "Spirit Possession Flowers", but if the translation of the title changes, I'm willing to change it to match up with the new title translation. When editing titles, I assumed that 憑依華 was a reference to the game's title instead of the in-game phenomenon, so that's why I changed a few titles to that. 恒常不変の参廟祀 = Constant and Unchanging ___?

Currently, the wiki has the blank as "Mazureum" while at the Touhou Patch Center it is "Three Steps" and it was formally "Temple of Worship" here. I personally am not a fan of the current constructed pun as for one thing, I'm not entirely sure how many people have actually heard of a mazurka or that it is in triple time. Of course, then the problem because finding a good English pun, or even just not attempting that and do a straight translation. Regardless, I think this could warrant discussion. --DTM (talk) 09:08, 13 January 2018 (UTC)

I'm the person who came up with the pun, but I do agree with you about the relative obscurity of "mazurka"; I had actually never heard of a mazurka before looking it up for the pun. I'd be hard-pressed to find an easier English pun, and I'm not a fan of just not attempting a pun either, so this feels like the lesser evil to me. I do feel "mazureum" matches the Japanese the closest out of the three translations, though. Zenryaku (talk) 10:56, 14 January 2018 (UTC)

Dream World

The Dream World theme sounded like a Christmas theme, to be honest. Nintenchris5963 (talk) 11:03, 24 January 2018 (UTC)
