Talk:Bunbunmaru Newspaper

From Touhou Wiki

here's a candidate for title : bunbunmaru = Wordy Periodic. since bunbunmaru dont seem to be published in a daily manner. (however, this name sounds like an obscure journal from 19th century ... yeah.)

Wrong kanji title

文々。新聞 cannot be read as bunbunmaru shinbun, the character 'maru' is missing for that, giving bunbun shinbun. If it were to be modelled after her name, the it should read 文々丸。新聞 instead.

http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/東方文花帖_~_Bohemian_Archive_in_Japanese_Red says otherwise. (second sentence of 概要) -7HS

Had a thought. Had Bunbunmaru been spelled out 文々丸 (and not the 文々。 that I just noticed on the other page), I would've said a possible name for the newspaper would go something like "Around and around Aya goes Newspaper." The 丸 maru would've meant circle or round, and the 文々 for Aya's name repeated twice. The repetition could be something similar to how certain words have doubled voicing, like tokidoki etc., where in this case it'd try to convey a sense of urgency or speed. Might even add a sense of comedy to the name, along the lines of "Ah there goes Aya again, flying around like a bat out of hell" type feel.

With it being spelled 文々。 the above could still work, but the 。maru doesn't have that same 丸 maru feel to it. Velichi 14:01, September 27, 2010 (UTC)

Bleh got this section mixed up with an unrelated one... Velichi 14:02, September 27, 2010 (UTC)

Name section

The name section is in my opinion too long, and goes on endlessly talking about every single kanji used in it's name. Not to mention the "Chinese community" part, which I think serves more purpose in the zh part of the wiki. Any other information is put in a "trivia" section, but I'm sure there is more to write about the paper. Anyway, I think it needs to be rewritten completely ☢ Quwanti 10:54, 14 August 2012 (EDT)

Bulletin?

So I had the thought of changing the translation from "Bunbunmaru Newspaper" to "Bun-Bun-Maru Bulletin". It breaks up long words similar to how the original abbreviates "bunbun", and "bun bun bulletin" recreates some of the effect of "bun bun shinbun". What do you think? --Prime32 (talk) 20:19, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

I think that "Bunbunmaru Newspaper" is already so universally used that changing it at all would be a strange move. It's true though that a lot of Japanese newspapers only have one word for "newspaper", while other countries have many words. Anyway, be sure to ask around about it. ― Darkslime 19:44, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
It would carry a bit of the sound effect over, but I don't think it's worth it. Newspaper itself is a perfectly fine translation. - Kiefmaster99 (talk) 20:40, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
I see "Bunbunmaru" used more than "Bunbunmaru Newspaper", honestly. --Prime32 (talk) 00:40, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
