Dream World translations?[edit]

We've now got another "dream world" (夢の世界) in the latest game LoLK. In SoEW, it was "幻夢界" and in LLS, it was "夢幻世界". I have to ask, can using just "dream world" refer to all of these translations? I feel like they need to be re-looked at, or re-changed to be more specific where "夢の世界" has a different translation from "幻夢界". Place clarify this if you can. As requested, here's my input. 夢の世界 is the easiest; it's literally 'world of dreams', so if any of them are going to take precedence as just "Dream World," it's that one.
The others are a bit less clear-cut? 幻夢界 is composed of the kanji for 'illusion dream realm', and 夢幻世界 is 'dream illusion world'. 幻夢 and 夢幻, as far as I can tell from checking various dictionaries, mean... basically the same thing. They're variously translated as "dream," "fantasy," "phantasm," "vision," etc., both on this wiki and in other sources I've looked at. (Minor note: 幻夢 is only used in SoEW, whereas 夢幻 comes up in tons of places throughout the series.)
Since there's many near-synonymous translations for 幻夢 and 夢幻, and none of the various translations on the wiki right now seem outright inaccurate, I guess I'd say to just go with what you feel is most appropriate? Sorry I can't give a more clear-cut answer. :V Gilde (talk) 19:21, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
Okay, I see. So, it's concluded that we adopt LoLK's 夢の世界 as 'Dream World'. For the PC-98 names, I guess it'd be more appropriate to use 'fantasy' because that basically describes an 'illusion dream' in a more specific sense. As such, we can use 'Fantasy World' for 夢幻世界, but I wouldn't know what 幻夢界 could be... 'Realm of Fantasies'? 'World of Fantasies'? (Based on Mugenkan's literal translation). I wouldn't really know. On the article, it's suggested that SoEW and LLS dream worlds could be the same; judging from the different pronouns, I don't think that's the case. I'll go ahead on sorting out LoLK and LLS's dream world to using the suggested translations, but I'll keep a hold on SoEW's until we can use a clear translation. I've just realised that there's a BGM titled 幻夢界 in Story of Eastern Wonderland/Music. That's translated as "World of Empty Dreams", and according to what you stated, I presume this translation would be incorrect? I'm starting to think that "World of Fantasies" would be a good-enough translation, however. Tony64 (Talk/Con.) 00:15, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
Currently we do have a bit of a clusterfuck in terms of how we TL certain terms, usually involving any of 幻, 想, and 夢. 幻想 (gensou; as in gensoukyou) = (Land of) Fantasy or Illusion. 夢想 (musou, as in musou fuuin) = Fantasy (Seal). 夢幻 has been variously translated as Dream/Fantasy/Phasntasm. Just throwing that in there. But I do agree that 夢の世界 matches closest to Dream World. - Kiefmaster99 (talk) 02:38, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
