Music Edit?

I noticed that on Utsuho's theme, the title is now Sun Worship of Gnosis ~ Nuclear Fusion, istead of Solar Sect of Mystic Wisdom ~ Nuclear Fusion Plus, the Google translates to Sun Worship of Gnosis ~ Nuclear Fusion Would it be okay to change it?

ENGLISH PATCH != ULTIMATE TRUTH
Now, according to Eternal Tewi: "'Mystic Wisdom' is word-for-word translation, '霊知' means 'gnosis' in japanese. And also, '太陽信仰' means 'Sun Worship' or 'Heliolatry', not 'Solar Sect'.
Plus, Google Translate has probably been bombarded by some Touhou fantards so song titles will likely match up to whatever Touhou's translation is. I mean "ツェペシュの幼き末裔" has been translated to "Final Stage Theme". So, no, it's not OK to change it. !8RstuPId2Y 19:53, June 5, 2010 (UTC)
Just to chip in my two (late) cents: This is probably the most troublesome name change EVER, mostly because all the dictionaries I've consulted list '霊知' as either 'gnosis' or 'mystic wisdom' (Which can be synonymous). Luckily, '太陽信仰' still means 'Sun Worship', so there's no contending that.
Personally? I prefer 'Gnosis' over 'Mystic Wisdom'. Why? Well, let me quote Wikipedia for a bit... "Gnosis is the spiritual knowledge of a saint or mystically enlightened human being", and "It indicates direct spiritual experiential knowledge and intuitive knowledge, mystic rather than that from rational or reasoned thinking", both of which seem rather fitting for a Hell Raven who acquired Nuclear Fusion powers after eating a Sun God. TRANSLATE TO ENGLISH
Not just exchange the words for what you consider a closer match, try to make the final result match closer. "Solar sect of mystic vision" actually parses to what the original text is supposed to mean. "Sun worship of gnosis", on the other hand, in addition to sounding painfully awkward, pretty much means that the gnosis is worshipped.
The obvious fix would be to use the opportunity the word "gnosis" gives us and change the adjectival phrase to an actual adjective ("Gnostic heliolatry"). But there's still another problem here - the undesired association of said word with certain group of judeo-christian religious sects - and this change makes it even more apparent. It won't mean "worship coming from knowledge" to most people, it will mean "worship by Gnostics".
Which makes me believe that the first translation may actually be the best thing one can do with this phrase. But who am I to decide, do as you wish. YouDoNotHavePermissionToEditOurSecretEliteWikiWithoutAnAccountHurr 19:04, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
I read "Gnosis sun worship", and I laugh, because it's Google Translate. Just check out the other titles.
Edited some random pages back to Solar Sect, as part 1 of my dastardly plan. Personally, I think there's an issue with both of these translations; I've decided to ask about it elsewhere. For the record, I plugged 霊知 into wwwjdic and got "mystic wisdom", but not "gnosis" (and I would think I'd get both). Maybe someone should ask the original translators about this...? Should probably mention that I have done some more research into the wording of this particular title because it still bothers me. "Mystic Wisdom" is fine, I think: Most sources point out that "Mystic Wisdom" is more generic, so this is probable A-OK (A man of science is entitled to change his mind once he finds enough evidence to prove him wrong). What bothers me now is the "Solar Sect" part. I ain't changing no thing, but if we are to translate this part properly, we'll realize that "信仰" does not mean Sect: It means Faith. As in, a system of beliefs. "Solar Faith of Mystic Wisdom", then? How about "Solar Creed of Mystic Wisdom"? Or "Solar Religion of Mystic Wisdom"? These are closer translations to what the name means in Japanese. No idea where that whole "sect" thing came from, but it's always been a stone in my shoe.Anatole serial 17:32, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
You should think of it as a "sect" of a "faith." Code Slasher 15:32, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
I would change "Mystic Wisdom" to "Mystical Wisdom", but the previous comments seem convincing enough that "Mystic" is a person in this case. Code Slasher 21:58, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

I'd just like to say that "Solar Sect of Mystic Wisdom" is one of the most badass-sounding English phrases ever. Please don't ever change it, ever ever ever. Despatche (talk) 16:14, 15 January 2016 (UTC)
