New lyrics template for testing

BuraQ has designed a new lyrics template. Here is an existing article that has been converted to the new template: Lyrics:_陽だまり猫だまり --Tsukihime 19:54, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

Well, I'm for it!

♥★♦ 00:45, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

I'm glad it got made into a template! And I see that loop thing is finally working too. Is there a reason why the album is listed like that though? Mizutori 14:28, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
Because I don't like return to links and it also makes it more colorful. --Tsukihime 16:37, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
Oh, at the time I asked because the link was on its own line underneath 'Album:', which I thought was strange is all. I like the covers too. :> Though I'm wondering if getting rid of the text hyperlink altogether is a good idea...
Sorry if it sounds like I'm complaining lol, I'm just happy the lyrics finally got their own template. Mizutori 17:04, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

To all lyric editors: here is a lyric parser that should somewhat make it easier to create articles based on the template. The current design requires you to group your lyrics into stanzas, where single-line space represent lines that are part of the stanza, and a double-line space represents a new stanza. Make sure that the double-line space contains no characters. For example

line1 (start of stanza 1)
line2
line3 (end of stanza 1)

line4 (start of stanza 2, notice the empty line in between)
line5
line6
...

I assume you will be copy pasting text from an external text editor. Problems occur if you try to manually hit enter on the webpage. I'm not sure why it happens.

Most of it is pretty straightforward. For the album/cover, you would put the album title on the corresponding box, and if that album has a cover, put the name of the image on the right. Similarly for the original title/source, the original title goes on the left and the corresponding source goes on the right.

If the design does not suit your translating style, feel free to offer suggestions on my talk page. --Tsukihime 18:11, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

It seems like chrome and IE are not supported, but firefox works. --Tsukihime 20:08, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
It doesn't work on Opera neither Vecktor 18:21, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

Album categorization template

I have written a new Template:album categorization template. Currently supports two cases: banner, or cover. It will categorize it appropriately. --Tsukihime 14:21, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Loop functionality

This is mainly for those that are writing templates. You can pass templates as arguments to the loop, meaning the loop can print out entirely formatted output as per the template involved. This allows for more creative uses for loops since you can do more than simply passing plain text into it. --Tsukihime 16:37, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

How to deal with songs used in multiple albums

Previously I had wanted to subpage lyrics cause it makes sense to associate the lyrics for a song with the album that it appears in. But then some circles re-use their songs in multiple albums. Problem becomes "how do we know if a track is re-used?" which I suppose one could simply run a search before writing the lyrics, but that means everytime a new album comes out you'll have to do the check...which is quite tedious. --Tsukihime 13:37, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

One easy way to know if a lyrics page already exists for a song is to simply make the title into a link in the track list, and see wether it's a red link or not. It also means no searching is required either, but it does mean that all lyrics pages need to be named in the proper format (Lyrics: name). If we subpaged all the lyrics it wouldn't be that easy though. Mizutori 13:58, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
BuraQ suggested on IRC that all songs with duplicate names would be placed in the same page in different sections clearly identified. That way, we don't have to deal with searching whether a song is re-used or not, and it would make things simpler --Tsukihime 14:45, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
Okies, I'm good with that too. Mizutori 14:56, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

Standards have been written - Lyrics Guidelines --Tsukihime 15:53, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

A new standard is now being adopted. In case of collisions of titles between different songs each song should be but in a sepparate page with name in the following standard Lyrics:_Song_Title_(Group_Name) as shown here and here, while the old page (one without the group name) should be changed to a disambiguation page as shown here. --BuraQ 17:04, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

Locations

Shouldn't Locations get its own nav box? It's always a pain to navigate with categories, and it would show the relationship between locations better. Mizutori 23:30, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

It should. I'm guessing each group would be the general area that the location is in? Do we have this kind of information for all of the locations? --Tsukihime 12:49, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

Anyone know how to patch?

After watching several of our community members make patched games (such as Lucky Charat and RegalStar) I'm interested to get in the mix!

But... after many frustrating Google searches, I got nothing...

Don't worry about the actual translations themselves, I just want to be able to make the files responsible to make this happen.

So, any one willing to help me out? ♥★♦ 00:59, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

New official music pages

In order to get more official stuff on the wiki, rather than just having a zillion pages about derivative works, and because this information is scattered all over the place, I wanted to see what everyone thinks of making a page for each separate ZUN composition, in the style of Eternal Shrine Maiden. I created the page just now, and was wondering what everyone thought.
Some of the articles in this regard will probably be pretty short(unlike the example), but what do you all think? Darkslime 16:50, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
This would lead to the creation of too many short articles. Maybe it's a better idea to use List by Song instead, or only make articles for notable songs. Master Bigode 17:21, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
Well, we could add sheet music and in-depth music-theoretical analyses (like, similar to the "Description" field in the Character template, but in a musical sense) for some more content on those pages.
And this would be pretty much the only reason I'd see to create them at all. The MusicRoom template already can take care of multiple comments after all. --NamelessLegacy 01:18, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
In regards to this, check this site out. It's an @wiki made for storing just that sort of information. It is by no means complete, but it's an idea. --Darkslime 15:48, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
We once had separate pages for songs, but they mostly just included ZUN comments and List by Song arrange lists. Everything was then redirected to their List by Song entries and that was that. If it was just sheet music we could simply add that to List by Song pages. Although, having sheet music, in-depth analyses, all comments, and maybe arranges all in one seems like it'd be more substantive and useful. It's worth looking into. As said, to keep from going overboard, we could limit it to certain popular or noteworthy songs, and continue to link the rest to List by Song.
Also somewhat related, as was brought up by WGH when I decided to redirect more songs, having songs redirect to their List by Song entries perhaps doesn't make the most sense, either. There's no perfect solution, but if we didn't have redirects there, I think that maybe no one would use List by Song much since it seemed to be in some disuse when I decided to update some things there. I don't know what the solution would be as far as whether to redirect there, if it needs some sort of overhaul, or what. Sorry, I've just been meaning to bring it up and this seemed like the time. Maybe these music page proposals would even help some. UTW 08:25, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Mainpage Implementation

I'm working on a mainpage implementation, see the discussion subpage here. Momiji 19:04, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

Unfinished music articles

I've decided to prioritize quantity over quality and have been dumping all the information currently on CDwiki to fill in those red-links. Since other things use the music articles it would also be better if we actually had tracklists filled out. Only arrangers, vocalists, lyricists, tracklist, release date, and conventions have been submitted. Details like banners, catalog numbers, covers, websites, and the rest of the staff will be needed.

You can find the list at Category:Unfinished/MusicArticles --Tsukihime 17:38, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

Deleting files

So there's a lot of files that are named like this

File:20060802171816!Midmaxtunecover.jpg

With a date prepended to the name. I'm guessing these were older versions that were copied over by the maintenance script. Should we do something about these? --Tsukihime 14:04, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

Yes, these are older versions of files and thumbnails. I don't think there's a practical way to restore these as file revisions. Master Bigode 16:50, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

General restructuring

Over the past six months or so, I've been redoing a lot of the way content is presented on the Wiki. Every page related to Undefined Fantastic Object, Highly Responsive to Prayers, Story of Eastern Wonderland, and Phantasmagoria of Dim.Dream has been "completed" according to what I was doing, but I'm going to need some help, at least with a few simple tasks. For the time being, there are three things that are relatively simple:

  1. Removing the horizontal lines in between the article body and the navbox
  2. Removing "return to X page" at the top/bottom of pages (this was brought up a while ago, but even with the subpage standard we're using now, there's still a few pages left)
  3. Adding style="border-collapse: collapse;" to every table to get an actual 1-pixel width border (for translation articles and the like)

Darkslime 17:30, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

Also, remember to indicate that a page has been revised by striking out the corresponding entry at the portal. Check which ones have been completed to speed up the process!
Fastest way to fix the articles according to what is given up there:
Wow, I didn't even know we had a community portal. Thanks, Tsukihime. Darkslime 18:50, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

All official game pages have now been completed according to those three points :D Mizutori 14:27, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

Darkslime can remove the entry if it is appropriate --Tsukihime 14:51, 12 April 2011 (UTC)
Wow, Mizutori, awesome! I'll go post a couple more tasks on the portal, I suppose. --Darkslime 15:27, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

Ukrainian language Touhou Wiki opening request

Greetings to everyone! I'm a Touhou-fan from Ukraine, and I noticed, that there's no TouhouWiki in ukrainian! Where could I ask for a uk.touhouwiki.net and start editing TouhouWiki in my language? Thank you. --Deimos 16:41, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

I would recommend using the Ukrainian country code instead (ua.touhouwiki.net), since having "uk" in the url could lead some people to think that it's a British English wiki... or something. Master Bigode 17:03, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
We already use language code for Swedish wiki. --WGH 17:25, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
The code «uk» is used for Ukrainian Wiki on Wikipedia. UA is a code for country (like us for USA or uk for United Kingdom), while uk is code for Ukrainian language (like en for English). So I'd prefer uk.touhouwiki.net to be created. But if it's better for you to make ua.touhouwiki.net, than it's okay, I'll inform our Ukrainian Touhoufans about it. But the Question is still here — could you do that for us? --Deimos 17:50, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
I'm in favour of using language codes. The fact that Ukrainian Wikipedia uses this pretty much settles this. - Kiefmaster99 17:53, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
Yes, me too. --Deimos 18:02, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
Oh, I see. It might be ok to use uk. then. Master Bigode 17:56, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
en-us, en-uk, uk-ua, that's the concept. Language code-Country code - KyoriAsh 18:14, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, that's it. So, how about wiki? --Deimos 18:20, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
Ви гарантуєте, що її будете редагувати не тільки ви, але і ще ряд україномовних користувачів? Тут і так повно дохлих вікі, лол. So, I propose creation a wiki similar to http://incubator.wikimedia.org/ before opening new actuall wikis. --Coyc 18:29, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
I don't see the point of creating the Incubator. I don't think there're so many people, who want to create their own my-language-tohowiki. And if wiki appears to be dead, it's never too late to delete it! --Deimos 18:55, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
Well, this Incubator idea is not directly about Ukrainian wiki. Могли б по чанам заклик вкинути, хулѣ. Я таким чином і робив у свій час. Ви ж адмін Нічана, наскільки я пам'ятаю. --Coyc 19:23, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
Do you mean there is another request? How long it was, since the last existing wiki was opened? Unfortunately Touhou Project is not so popular around the world, so, I don't think creation of one more touhouwiki would influence on other ones. Так, ви все правильно пам’ятаєте. Саме так я і зроблю, не сумнівайтеся. І, до речі, саме на нічані я не так давно бачив тохо-тред. --Deimos 19:53, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
I think you should to talk with User:Chloe, who is in charge of server administration and so only Chloe can open Ukrainian wiki. --Coyc 20:01, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
I think Coyc is worrying about the running plan on the integrated Index page for all languages of Touhou Wiki (not Touhou Project Wiki), as you can see on Talk:Touhou Wiki/Mainpage; it pushes one to add & erase the link of "Ukrayina". If s/he doesn't mean it, it's my concern. It needs indeed a kind of endurance to keep editing the wiki; one can't avoid keeping up with information of new works & brushing up the accuracy of current data on a wiki. But on the other hand, well, I'm also happy to know Touhou is being spread more. --masuo64 Talk 19:29, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
The idea is great, I think this version is better by far, but it lacks link to Japanese touhouwiki (i've lost the link, but i'm sure, you know about this wiki) and Ukrainian as well. As I've already mentioned, if there exist wikis with 15, 16 or even 6 articles, the Ukrainian touhouwiki should have a chance to live. It will have more than 15 articles, I guarantee that. --Deimos 19:53, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
I worry about we are constantly opening new wikis but they are not active at all. While there are few wikis it's no problem. But if there would be a lot of wikis it may case problem to server and hosting. So my idea is about opening new projects more wisely. --Coyc 19:41, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
It would be great. If there're lot of new wikis, it would mean noone works in vain, the popularity of Touhou Project grows and so on... But not likely it will happen. Why you, Coyc, being Ukrainian are against that opening? I'm sure you will join us! --Deimos 19:59, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
I'm not against Ukrainian wiki, lol. And sure, I will help with it (but don't expect much, because my main here wiki is still Russian Touhou Wiki). I speak about general problem of small wikis regardles of succes of future Uk.wiki. --Coyc 20:08, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
BTW why I can't edit my own userpage? --Deimos 20:02, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
It didn't exist yet, and you're not yet autoconfirmed so you can't create articles yet, but you can edit them. I went ahead and created your userpage for you. Also, the reason we don't link to a "Japanese Touhou Wiki" is because there isn't one single unified Japanese Touhou wiki, there's a couple dozen different wikis hosting different sorts of data. As for the uk.touhouwiki.net idea, we basically follow the Wikipedia path to creating new language wikis; if you think it'll be notable enough I'm not adverse at all to it getting started. On the other hand we already have quite a few comatose wikis, but they were already like that before we transferred them here. Anyway, I don't personally mind but Chloe would have to agree to it as well. Momiji 20:27, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
It would be great. Thank you. --Deimos 20:34, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

IRC channel publicized

I've made an attempt to add the webIRC link to the sidebar. Don't know if it shows up everywhere though --Tsukihime 16:38, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Flash animations

This was brought up awhile ago, but we should probably do something about flash animations as well. IOSYS produces a lot of stuff, but other groups do as well. I've started dumping links here in case someone really wants to do something with it --Tsukihime 13:16, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Plan

  • Animations and videos will be grouped by artist/group
  • Each artist/group will have their own page specifically for these videos, which will be available on their circle page.
  • There will be a single page that will link to all of these pages
  • There will be a link from the doujin portal to this listing

We will need to come up with some category names. "Animations"?

A link to the listing will also be available in the sidebar and on the frontpage. --Tsukihime 13:45, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

What just happened?

I'm a little confused by this but at around 7 am GMT I tried going to this wiki (its in my favourites of course) and it sent me to something called TouhouMUCK wiki, and when i tried to go to yuyuko's page and it was all in spanish or something. Anyone know what happened so we can prevent it happening again? also the normal wiki was back at around 7:10 am. Baptiejames 06:17, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

Site maintenance was performed to update to the latest MediaWiki version. As these updates usually do not take more than 5 minutes, it is easier to simply finish them without taking the site down. Chloe 06:25, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

Ah ok, thanks. Baptiejames 06:30, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
