How to handle the two Nightmare Diary tracks[edit]

Since no one opened up a discussion on this, I guess I will. So far, there seems to be three initial options: Leaving them both Nightmare Diary, making the first Nightmare Journal (current), or making the first Diary of Nightmares (initial). I personally don't like leaving them both the same but really conflicted on the later two. Journal is inconsistent to the many usage of "Diary" in the game but Diary of Nightmares doesn't exactly map. Just opening up the discussion and who knows, maybe there are other options. --DTM (talk) 15:54, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

There seems to be a wordplay here that one cannot easily translate into English, but "悪夢日記" and "ナイトメアダイアリー" essentially mean the same thing while sounding completely different, just like in English where "journal" is essentially the same as "diary" while sounding completely different. Although most of this wiki uses "diary" for "日記", there is at least one page that uses "journal" for it, and my research suggests that both are acceptable translations for "日記". There's no wordplay. ZUN was just too lazy to think about new track names. In the prologue, he did write nightmare diary as "悪夢の日記" so Diary of Nightmare isn't too off there. My take would be "Nightmare Diary (track 1)" and "Nightmare Diary (track 4)" on this. --DracoGideon (talk) 01:26, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
My concern with the Track 1/Track 4 suffixes is that it'll look very odd when the first arrangement CDs start showing up.
How about "Nightmare Diary (Title)" and "Nightmare Diary"? The current Journal/Diary split also seems reasonable to me. It's an awkward situation, there's no non-awkward solution. -- Mazian (talk) 16:18, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

Story themes being listed as "[character]'s theme"[edit]

I can't help but be irked by this convention. It's not used for ISC's music page, so why here?

The story mode tracks have no comments beyond "from [game]". Like in ISC, they're just filler songs for the plot-relevant scenes to suit the mood or characters involved without any strict correlation to who's being fought then and there.

Like... The Concealed Four Seasons isn't Sumireko's theme! It would only make sense that it plays because of the Okina dialogue. --Naudiz (talk) 15:47, 14 March 2019 (UTC)

It was just an instinctive thing for me to do, honestly. I think back when I did edit it I felt like there was a strong reason to do it, but I forgot that purpose (especially since, as you stated, ISC didn't have that, making me realize that either I shouldn't have done it for VD, or have actually done it for both games); I'll remove them now. Apologies.
