The Genius of Sappheiros/Walkthrough/Stage 11

Youkai Mountain

If you have not recruited Byakuren yet, she will join your party at the beginning of this stage.

This stage is split into two parts - the first part of the stage is as simple as a dungeon can be, with no puzzles, very few hidden passages, and very simple layout. You will find a blue healing circle eventually, which is one-use but can be refreshed by leaving and re-entering the dungeon. Past the healing circle you will have to fight Momiji for the first time.

Once you defeat Momiji, you will move on to the second part of the dungeon. The layout is similar to the first part, but there are a few more hidden passages that lead to chests, as well as a silver key that opens up the chest all the way near the entrance that's more or less about it. You can walk on the lotus leaves to the right of the healing circle and switch, which opens up a shortcut. It's also part of a bigger shortcut to halfway through stage 12, so make sure you open it.

The normal battle BGM changes at this point, signalling the fact that you've passed the mid-game point. Anyways, you probably haven't been fighting monsters so easy for a while. Very few monsters possess any kind of threat to your party here, so feel free to bring a few underlevelled characters to get them up to track if you want. In the first part of the dungeon, the only monster that can possess any kind of threat is the skeleton monster, which can do a lot of damage with their physical attacks and have a lot of health as well. However, they're weak to fire, light, and very weak to crushing weapons - you can do a lot of damage to it using an axe or some other crushing weapon, even if it's very outdated. The flower enemy attacks you with several statii that can be annoying, but doesn't really do much actual damage. The monsters don't get much stronger past the first part either, although multiple staff fairies can potentially overwhelm your party if they decide to spam their multi-target magic attacks. You will also rarely find those horned demons that keep on getting heavily armored every time you meet them, and they're similarly dangerous to their previous incarnations, so watch out as well.

The staff wielding fairies can drop Youkai Mountain Rocks, catalyst for your fourth-tier equipments, but the drop rate is pathetically low here, and you won't find any in chests (yet). This is largely an easy stage, so just wait until next one to get them.

Midboss: Momiji Inubashiri

Momiji's HP: 6000

It's kind of hard to take her seriously when she has only 2000 more HP than those skeletons you've probably met once or twice. Bring Alice, use a line formation and Marionette Peril every turn, and you more or less can't get hurt much at all. Feel free to use whatever underlevelled characters you have to take her down, but if you want weaknesses, she's weak to Earth and is classified as a warrior. Bring a healer or something if your characters are really underlevelled or don't have much offense to begin with.

Boss: Momiji Inubashiri (again) and Cirno

Momiji's HP: 12000 Cirno's HP: 12000

This time around, they're a lot tougher. They always do the same thing opening round - both will use Bomb Reload, then Cirno will use Perfect Freeze to inflict Freeze (stuns, also renders victim incapble of evasion) on your party members, while Momiji will use Expellee's Canann, a low accuracy high power attack that takes perfect advantage of Perfect Freeze. As long as both are still alive, they will repeat the pattern every fifth turns (although sometimes they will use another attack instead). The best way to defend against this combination attack is to use Reimu's Omnidirectional Demon Binding Circle to bypass Freeze altogether, which will leave Expellee's Canann rather toothless (although you still need to defend against Perfect Freeze's damage). Having Sanae boost your resistance is alo an option, but Cirno is very fast, so on the first turn you may want to bring Aya to ensure that you can act first that turn. Their attacks are still fairly strong on the other turns, so Alice's shielding helps a lot here. However, once either one is down, the other will be reduced to using fairly weak single-target attacks, so make it your goal to bring down either as soon as possible. Cirno is weak to fire while Momiji is weak to earth, so take advantage of them. Also, Cirno is a Magician class, while Momiji is a warrior class - Nitori's gun and Marisa's 13pt lasers have slayer effects on them.
