Skills:

  1. Faith (信仰点)
    • Input: Passive
    • Description: You receive faith in the form of little frog items after knocking down any enemy or hitting them with a skill. This fills up the faith meter just above her Health meter. Kanako has only one, large bar in her faith meter, as opposed to Suwako's multiple smaller bars. Knockdowns give 2 faith items, whereas skill hits give 6.
  2. Competition in Strength (コンポティションインストレングス)
    • Input: Hold Punch
    • Description: A halfscreen bullrush attack. It requires about 4 seconds of charge time, but unlike other charge moves there is no animation to show that the attack is charging. You can freely Run, Jump, Kick, or drop Onbashira on enemies while charging up the attack, allowing for you to freely combo it off of any normal attack. It has super armor for the entire duration, moves quickly across the screen, and deals significant damage. Be wary of sending yourself into walls or off the edge of the stage, as the amount of movement is excessive.
  3. Onbashira From Above (オンバシラ・フロム・アバヴ)
    • Input: Down, Down + Kick
    • Description: Summon a floating Onbashira pillar to slam down on an enemy. Hold Kick to move around the attack to any location, but be careful as you are immobile and vulnerable to attack while moving the pillar around. The pillar can hit enemies in knockdown state for bonus damage after combos. This cannot be reflected by Youmu's counter.
  4. Power of God (神の力)
    • Input: Passive
    • Description: Once Faith is full, you automatically activate this passive, which constantly drains Faith until it is once again empty. Kanako gains permanent super armor for the duration and it allows you to use her specials with a single button press. Kick will summon a set of five Onbashira From Above in an X shape, and you can aim it much faster. Punch will use Competition in Strength without any charging needed. Note that you can't jump or dash normally while powered, though your limited mobility can still be mitigated through smart use of her skills for mobility or disabling others.

Overview:

  • Kanako is a strong, but slow warrior. Competition in Strength is easily your most dangerous asset, with good power and godlike armor that also doubles as a quick mobility tool. It is useful in combos, chasing down evasive enemies, blasting through an incoming attack, or even some midscreen neutral situations. With no visible charge animation, you should always have one charging and ready for an opportunity to use. Onbashira From Above is also a potentially useful skill, but don't fall into the trap of trying to chase down people with the attack, as it moves much slower than the average character's run speed and you can be easily punished as a result. Dropping a pillar after you knock down an enemy is a good way to get free extra damage for very little risk though. Making smart use of Power of God will really let you take control of the battlefield. Anyone dumb enough to confront her in this god mode is asking for a beating, since her hyper armor allows her to walk through everything they can possibly throw at her. Most people will simply avoid Kanako while she's in god mode, but between onbashira knockdowns and armor dashes for horizontal movement, it's possible to catch up to most fleeing opponents. Like most team leaders, Kanako's natural stats are good enough that the Leader Bonus is mostly unnecessary.

Skills:

  1. Faith (信仰点)
    • Input: Passive
    • Description: You receive faith in the form of little frog items after knocking down any enemy or hitting them with a skill. This fills up the faith meter just above her Health meter. On average, one knockdown will gather enough faith to fill slightly over one bar. Suwako has four bars total of her faith meter.
  2. Moriya's Iron Ring (洩矢の鉄の輪)
    • Input: Up, Up + Punch
    • Description: A thrown ring projectile attack. She throws the ring out at a 45 degree angle upwards and toward the direction she's facing. It will bounce off of any walls it comes in contact with until it flies down off the stage. It gets bigger and stronger with each higher level of the faith meter, but drains one bar of faith during its use. Enemies can jump over the attack. It cannot be reflected by Youmu's counter.
  3. Curse God(神の祟)
    • Input: Down, Down + Punch (Requires at least one bar of Faith)
    • Description: Suwako does a little frog hop, summoning a black ring on the ground that blasts all enemies standing in it. Although it drains all Faith during its use, it gets progressively stronger with each extra bar of Faith consumed, with the max Faith version being absurdly powerful.

Overview:

  • Suwako is a pretty malleable character with universally high stats. Moriya's Iron Ring is a good projectile, albeit with a somewhat awkward trajectory. Whether powered up by her Faith passive or used as a finisher to combos, it's as dangerous as it is useful. Additionally, if you aim it well and hit multiple enemies, it can oftentimes gather more faith than it used in the first place. Curse God is also extremely adaptable to different playstyles. At low Faith levels, it works great as a simple aoe knockdown to assist in zoning and keepaway strats; however, at Faith max, it becomes a monstrous aoe damage tool that encourages jumping right into a large group for maximum effect. With natural fives in both mobility stats and Recovery, she's also an excellent choice for racing. Her Leader Bonus is pitiful though, so save it for someone else who actually needs it.

Skills:

  1. Faith (信仰点)
    • Input: Passive
    • Description: You receive faith in the form of little frog items after knocking down any enemy or hitting them with a skill. This fills up the faith meter just above her Health meter. Sanae has only one, large bar in her faith meter, as opposed to Suwako's multiple smaller bars. Knockdowns give 2 faith items, whereas skill hits give 6.
  2. Star Ritual to Call the Godly Winds (神風を呼ぶ星の儀式)
    • Input: Hold Punch or Press Punch while holding an Offering Rod item (can be used in the air)
    • Description: A fullscreen star projectile attack. Charging up the star completely takes a couple of seconds when unarmed, but charges instantly when holding an Offering Rod, allowing much faster use of the skill. You can freely change direction while charging the star normally, and can maintain the charge for a long (maybe indefinite?) duration. If it hits an enemy, it will knock out a considerable amount of faith.
  3. Rice Shower (ライスシャワー)
    • Input: Left or Right + Punch toward an enemy in hitstun
    • Description: A magical uppercut that gathers considerable faith from the enemy (around 1/4 meter before knockdown). It's best used as a combo ender, replacing the standard Punch or Kick combo ender for extra damage and bonus faith.
  4. God's Wind (神の風)
    • Input: Down, Down + Punch when faith meter is full
    • Description: A fullscreen tornado attack that sucks in all enemies for big damage. It consumes all faith to use, but can surprisingly even suck in enemies in knockdown state, making it a very strong OTG followup after any knockdown. Standing enemies can run away for the entire duration of the attack to fight against the tornado's pull, but if they are too close to begin with or have very poor Run stat, they will most likely be suctioned into it regardless.

Overview:

  • Don't let her poor offensive stats fool you, Sanae's wide arsenal of skills give her considerable strength in all situations. Her normal combos are weak, but you should always end them with Rice Shower for the slight bonus damage and massive increase in faith gains. Star Ritual to Call the Godly Winds is also an easy way to rack up damage and faith, and is one of the better projectile attacks in the game, which is only enhanced if you can get your hands on an Offering Rod item. A useful strategy is to take a full leap away from a pursuing enemy, and begin charging a star up as soon as you get airborne, so that you can fire it off at the enemy as soon as you land. And with all the faith gains from the repeated skill use, you'll quickly gain enough faith meter to use God's Wind. Be careful with each use of it though, as a poorly timed God's Wind will allow all of the enemies to just run away and escape. The best timing is after putting as many enemies into a hitstun or knockdown state as close to you as possible. Similarly, you can use it to capitalize on another enemy's knockdown without fear of retribution. With Leader Bonus, Sanae gains stats absurd amounts of stat points, second only to Patchouli. Every stat is raised up to a minimum of 5 points (a 14 point total), so it's definitely worth utilizing for her.

Skills:

  1. Gensou's Fastest (幻想最速)
    • Input: Passive
    • Description: Plays Aya's theme while playing her in any race.
  2. Maple Leaf Whirlwind (紅葉旋風)
    • Input: Left or Right + Punch toward enemy in hitstun
    • Description: A decently strong tornado uppercut for ending combos.
  3. Tengu Dance (天狗舞)
    • Input: Back + Kick while Dashing
    • Description: An extremely fast dash ending in a quick somersault kick. It deals decent damage and puts opponents into enough hitstun to combo into Maple Leaf Whirlwind. It doesn't have any invul or armor during the dash though, so be careful not to run into projectiles or attacks with a lot of active frames. Ideally, use it to quickly slip behind an opponent while they're charging an attack or otherwise distracted. It can also be used as an extremely quick escape tool, as the recovery is very small.

Overview:

  • Aya is a pretty basic character among the cast. She has decently strong Kick and Weapon stats, her mobility is superior, but her Defense and Recovery are rather low. With her only skills a straightforward dash-through attack and a combo ender, it makes her relatively predictable in combat, which is pretty dangerous considering her poor defensive stats. As a result, you have to rely a lot on your fundamental spacing and a notable degree of hit-and-run tactics. In races, however, her maxed Run stat and solid Jump stat make her one of the best contenders, not to mention her special race music skill just makes you feel fast! Aya's Leader Bonus gives her some much needed Defense and Recovery, but overall the bonus is mediocre and could probably be put to better use.

Skills:

  1. Extending Arm (のびーるアーム)
    • Input: Left or Right + Punch (can be used in the air)
    • Description: A long range mechanical arm attack. Because it doesn't count as part of your hitbox, you can use it to stuff basically any melee attack and even hit many projectiles out of the air before they hit you. The damage is nice and it will hit for a knockdown, which is great for both point farming and as a combo ender. You can even use this while holding a weapon, for bigger damage combos.
  2. Optic Camouflage (光学迷彩スーツ)
    • Input: Passive
    • Description: Receive less damage from attacks. Dispels after being knocked down by an enemy.

Overview:

  • Nitori is a surprisingly effective defensive character. Her stats aren't very strong at all, with the sole exception of her Weapon stat, and her main skill is just as useful on the defensive as on the offensive. Your best bet is to utilize a bigger weapon in combination with Extending Arm to keep enemies at bay and deflect any incoming attacks while you gradually rack up the points from all of the repeated knockdowns. Though her base Defense isn't exactly amazing, Optic Camouflage will help to reduce early damage. If you're playing safe enough and maximizing the arm usage, you may not lose the camo at all in a round. Nitori is another character with a stellar Leader Bonus though, as almost all stats gain 2 points, with item stats and Recovery only gaining 1. The 14 point bonus puts her up there as one of the best candidates for it.
