Plot
The plot follows Kosuzu Motoori, a cheerful and naive librarian, as the protagonist, as she goes about her daily life as the proprietor of her bookstore, Suzunaan. Throughout the story, she comes into contact with various demon books and otherwise old tomes from varying and unknown sources, leading to the slow reintroduction of "traditional-style" youkai into Gensokyo, juxtaposed with the relatively modern-minded and agreeable youkai typically seen in modern-day Gensokyo. Due to the various issues this causes, she attracts the attention of various "incident solvers" such as Reimu Hakurei, Marisa Kirisame, and Mamizou Futatsuiwa, as they attempt to investigate and sometimes contain the various youkai found in her mysterious demon books.
Name
The Japanese title refers to the name of the library Kosuzu works at, Suzunaan (鈴奈庵). The suzu (鈴) from the title is the same suzu in Kosuzu (小鈴), the protagonist's name. This is a similar naming convention used in Wild and Horned Hermit.
Press
A preview for the manga was announced in the November issue of Comp Ace, stating that Forbidden Scrollery would begin serialization in the upcoming December issue. ZUN posted a small picture of the page on his Twitter account on September 25, along with an announcement that the story would be new.
Chapter 4's title page revealed that the first tankobon volume of Forbidden Scrollery would be released on March 26, 2013.
Licensed Translation
Thai
In 2015 Forbidden Scrollery was licensed for Thai translation by Siam Inter Comics but only the 1st volume had been published. It can not be purchased from the publisher now.[1] It is the 4th and the last Touhou manga series which had been published in Thailand so far.

In 2017 Forbidden Scrollery was licensed for English translation by YenPress LLC,making it the first official ZUN's work to be officialy completely translated in English. It is translated by Alethea Nibley and Athena Nibley, and lettered by Alexis Eckerman. The series is available as retail and digital versions from most major book outlets, such as Barnes and Noble, Bookwalker and Comixology.
