Aya: 「導命樹に居た天使ですね、あの時の分までたっぷりインタビューしますよ」
Hatate: 「あの時は蝙蝠や邪眼を使ってたけど、今度は鎌で直接攻撃かー」
Tobiko: 「草薙の剣を盗み出した天使が用いるのが草を薙ぐ鎌か…なんと詩的な」
Momiji: (相手が本気を出して来たという事だろうに…危機感が無さすぎる…)
Translation
Aya: She's the angel who was on the Life-Guiding Tree on a previous incident. I might as well ask about that, too.
Hatate: Back then she attacked with bats and, like, an evil eye. Now she's just attacking directly with a scythe.
Tobiko: The angel who stole the Kusanagi now attacks with an actual grass-cutting blade... it's rather poetic.[3]
Momiji: (The foe's clearly attacking with all her might... these three really have no sense of danger...)

Aya: 「我々にとって未知の言語で構成された不思議な呪文のようですね」
Hatate: 「うろ覚えだけどミシャンドラとかいう奴も似たようなの使ってた気がするよ」
Tobiko: 「ではこの呪文は悪魔の技か、成程、彼女が堕天使である事実と繋がるぞ」
Momiji: (彼女が堕天使なら、鳶子 (おまえ) はさしずめ堕天狗だけどな)
Translation
Aya: To us, it's an unfathomable and incredible spell that uses a chant from some unknown language.
Hatate: That Mishandra fella also used similar magic before, I think.
Tobiko: Ah, then this magic probably has demonic roots. No wonder she's a fallen angel.
Momiji: (If she's a fallen angel, you (Tobiko) would have been considered a 'fallen Tengu' long ago.)

「アイ・オブ・ピジョンブラッド」 ("Ai Obu Pijon Buraddo")
"Eye of Pigeon Blood" [5]
Owner
Saraka Sant'Angelo
Level FC — 3
Comment
Aya: 「このスペルは、もともと東方導命樹の頃の没データなのです」
Hatate: 「テキスト担当も公開後にファンの手で発掘されるまで知らなかった」
Tobiko: 「そこで今回、技術面の壁を乗り越え、このような形で登場させたという訳だ」
Momiji: (技術面の壁はまともに越えたが、第三の壁は盛大に叩き壊して来たな…)
Translation
Aya: This is an unfinished spell card from Mystical Power Plant.
Hatate: Even our script-writer didn't know of its existence til' fans pointed it out.
Tobiko: Thus, the team worked hard to surpass the original technical limitations and use this spell card here.
Momiji: (Sure, we surpassed technical limitations, and now we're surpassing the fourth wall, too...)

香雪「フロストフリージア」[6] (Kōsetsu "Furosuto Furījia")
Fragrant Snow "Frost Freesia"
Owner
Tamako Sant'Angelo
Level FC — 4
Comment
Aya: 「黒幕のタマコ女史を直撃取材です、氷の花を咲かせてくれました」
Hatate: 「あんまり香雪蘭 (フリージア) には見えないけど、これ突っ込んじゃいけない奴?」
Tobiko: 「freezeと掛けているのだよ、少年少女でも思い付く簡単な言葉遊びだね」
Momiji: (和名にまで雪と入っていれば、そりゃ誰でもやりたくなるだろ…)
Translation
Aya: We're immediately heading for a direct interview with the mastermind. She's blooming ice flowers for us.
Hatate: It doesn't look like a Freesia flower, but is that, like, an important criticism right now?
Tobiko: She's clearly making a pun with 'freeze'. Even a child can come up with such simple wordplay.
Momiji: (The Japanese name for the Freesia genus has the kanji for 'snow' in it, so it's hard to miss...)

霊剣「抜けば玉散る氷の刃」 (Reiken "Nukeba Tama Chirukōri no Yaiba")
Spirit Sword "A Blade of Ice, Flashing As It Is Unsheathed" [7]
Owner
Tamako Sant'Angelo
Level FC — 5
Comment
Aya: 「そう言えば彼女は何故氷の魔力なんか持っているのでしょう」
Hatate: 「例えば洗礼名のGratiaがGlacier(氷河)と似ているからとか」
Tobiko: 「侍女に霜女という者が居たらしいね、きっと偶然ではないのだろう」
Momiji: (そのスペル名は本来、鋭い刀の煌きを示す比喩表現でしかないのだが…)
Translation
Aya: Come to think of it, why does she have cryo-kinetic abilities?
Hatate: Maybe her baptismal name "Gracia" sounds like 'glacier'?
Tobiko: One of her maids' names in kanji reads "frost girl", so it's likely not coincidental...
Momiji: (No, what the spell card name means is that her sword shimmers like ice under the sun...)

九曜「ルミナリエ・オブ・ホソカワ」 (Kuyō "Ruminarie Obu Hosokawa")
Nine Luminaries "Luminary of Hosokawa" [8]
Owner
Tamako Sant'Angelo
Level FC — 6
Comment
Aya: 「九曜紋ですか、彼女は望月忍者の血を引いているのですかね?」
Hatate: 「嫁ぎ先の家紋だってさ…ってか既婚者だったのかこの子」
Tobiko: 「僕の解釈だと、あれは狂い出す前から人生をやり直したいという願望かと」
Momiji: (細川ガラシャの無念が生み出した神霊の類という事…なのか?)
Translation
Aya: Nine Luminaries? Did she also inherit the blood of the Mochizuki ninjas?
Hatate: She's already married. Like, the luminaries came from her spouse's family.
Tobiko: In my interpretation, it's her desire to return back to the life she had before baptism.
Momiji: (It could be magic borne from the regrets of Hosokawa Gracia's spirit... or something...?)

Comment
Aya: 「今回は皆さんに、どんなスペルが嫌かアンケートを取ってみます」
Hatate: 「①スペカ名で攻撃して来る ②名前がやたら長い ③弾幕も挙動不審」
Tobiko: 「ついでにカリスマも無い、うーむ、何て地味に嫌な弾幕だ」
Momiji: (ネタに走ってごめんな西行寺…とでも言うべきなのだろうか…)
Translation
Aya: This time, let's collect the opinions of our fellow reporters. What traits of danmaku spell cards do you dislike?
Hatate: 1. Attacking with spell card name 2. Spell card name too long 3. Danmaku that behaves suspiciously[10]
Tobiko: Ah, and this spell is absolutely lacking in elegance. Who would want danmaku like this?
Momiji: (Gomenna-Saigyouji[11] for criticizing your spell card to death. Wait, no, should I say such a bad pun out loud...)

Aya: 「ついに放たれるラストスペル! 果たして我々の戦いの結末は…!」
Hatate: 「そして天魔様との身分違いの恋の行方は(棒読み)」
Tobiko: 「次回…最終話「トライフォーカサー」…! 全てを終わらせる時…!」
Momiji: (来週から新番組「トライフォーカサーEX」が始まらんぞ…!)
Translation
Aya: The final spell has been revealed! How will the final battle turn out for our heroines?
Hatate: And will the misunderstanding of affection with Tenmu-sama finally be settled? (monotone voice)
Tobiko: Today's episode... "Tri Focuser"! Where all will be resolved!
Momiji: (And next week's new program will be "Tri Focuser: Exhibition Mode"...!)

Notes[edit]

  1. 連刃 / Consecutive Blade: a card ability in Battle Spirits
  2. Possibly a reference to the "XXXG-01D Gundam Deathscythe" from the Gundam series.
  3. "Kusanagi" means "grass-cutting sword".
  4. A magic spell from the series Zatch Bell!.
  5. Possible reference to Pigeon Blood Jitterbug, the hidden final boss of Deathsmiles IIX.
  6. As Momiji states, kōsetsuran (香雪蘭) is one of the Japanese names for the Freesia genus.
  7. A phrase poetically referring to the shine of a polished blade being unsheathed. The Japanese pronunciation also contains the word tama, possibly forming a connection to Gracia Hosokawa's original given name, "Tama".
  8. Reference to the Hosokawa clan's "nine luminaries" family crest, as mentioned in Aya and Hatate's comments.
  9. Aside from the "in short, me" on the end, this is the full translated title of Mulier fortis cuius pretium de ultimis finibus sive Gratia regni Tango regina exantlatis pro Christo aerumnis clara, an opera piece written about Gracia Hosokawa.
  10. All of Hatate's comments here come from a Japanese Nicovideo series by yuke, titled "I don't want this kind of Touhou" (こんな東方は嫌だ).
  11. She's saying 'gomennasai' (sorry), but replacing '-sai' with Yuyuko's surname, for having criticized the spell card to its death. It's a terrible joke.
  12. "Narrow river" is the literal reading of the kanji for "Hosokawa".
