Hey there, it looks like we're edit-conflicting each other (I just submitted a lyricsheet for the first track, 面隠し, about a minute after you did.) Are you planning on doing other tracks from this album? Shearscape (talk) 02:38, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

Oh, hi! Sorry about that, if I'm messing you up or anything. I was planning on it, but didn't have any concrete plan or order I was thinking of working in. If we're both doing lyrics work on the album, how about we split the track list and each transcribe our respective songs? Could make it faster, methinks. (Yay, Buta-Otome!) La bruja pícaro (talk)
That sounds great! I just uploaded the last track on the album, and I am about 70% done with the penultimate track. I'll take the back four, and you can take the front four -- does that sound okay? (Yay, another Buta-otome fan!) Shearscape (talk) 03:16, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
Excellent! Let's do that, then. *claps* La bruja pícaro (talk)
Nice work! By the way, I noticed your comment on the first track, about a missing て or similar. There were a few typos here and there in the later tracks, too, but I chose not to add anything about those (seemed minor enough). I'll probably take on ビリヤード at some point this week. Shearscape (talk) 06:02, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, they are pretty minor. I'll probably not be doing anything for ビリヤード, but I'll be going through Buta-Otome's older releases and making sure they're all fixed up. It looks like 鉱石ラジヲ has kanji but no romaji, so I'll be moving onto that next, if scans for ビョウ or any other of my C84 priorities don't crop up at any point before then. I admit, I haven't been on the Wiki much as of late, but it's great to see another transcriber bouncing around, especially for Buta-Otome! La bruja pícaro (talk)
Yeah, 鉱石ラジヲ could use a little love. 8 is in the same situation for some tracks -- I already transcribed the ones I liked, but there's a few others that require both title translations and transcriptions. (If you needed more work!) I'll probably do some of the tracks on 8 later tonight since the kanji is already there. Shearscape (talk) 00:34, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
Also, not sure if you knew / if you already found them, but scans for ビョウ exist; they're linked from the spreadsheet. Shearscape (talk) 00:35, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
Yup! I transcribed the first two tracks already (although the first gave me a headache) and I'm on to romanizing them now. 8 sounds great! I'm surprised at the lack of love it got, but then again, it's a bit of a different album for Buta-Otome. La bruja pícaro (talk) 00:36, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

Hey, just a heads-up that I made a comment on the talk page for アッパッパー人, in case you missed it; it has to do with the transcription for the track title. Shearscape (talk) 01:34, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

Hey, I wanted to ask about the track translation for the first track on this album, 「罪と罰」. At least in my experience it's usually translated "Crime and Punishment" as a reference to the Dostoyevsky work of the same name -- see, for example, the Japanese wiki article here, and the Shiina Ringo song of the same name here. Would you mind if I changed it to that? Wanted to make sure if it was okay with you.

Thanks, Shearscape (talk) 22:52, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

Hey! Thanks for commenting, but it's pretty evident that I was not paying attention or something when I went over the entire album (how did I read しんもん as じもん, for one?). Any way you can help the articles I edit to be more accurate will make the Wiki all the better! I'll go ahead and change that song title to be nice and accurate, but in the future, feel free to jump at any errors or discrepancies you see in the stuff I edit or translate. Thanks for your hard work! La bruja pícaro (talk) 23:31, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the update, and no worries -- I'm happy to help where I can. I'd been a bit behind on Buta-otome releases, but I managed to get my hands on 異端審問, so I typed out the lyricpage for MiChi earlier today and I'll probably get a few more before heading to bed tonight. And thanks for your hard work! Shearscape (talk) 05:05, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

ひかり and NAIMAZE[edit]

Hey, sorry to keep spamming up your user-talk. I saw your changes to ひかり and I think your new track title translations are better. (You're correct about ~がいい, by the way -- I usually see it used as an assertion that something is for the best).

Do you translate songs? I've been meaning to translate NAIMAZE for a while and have some of the stanzas knocking around in my head, but I don't feel very confident / sure of myself for a lot of them. I was wondering if you were interested in helping out if you could. Thanks, Shearscape (talk) 04:59, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

Hey there! I do and I don't translate songs. I can be a bit rusty in Japanese since I learn a little bit of everything while focusing on nothing in particular; sometimes I'm ill-equipped to handle strange, phantasmagoric songs like most remixes of Yuyuko's theme, but it's not as though I never understand any more than the occasional "kawaii" or "desu". I'd be glad to help either way since consistency is great and all. La bruja pícaro (talk) 07:39, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
Sounds great, and yeah, it's definitely pretty phantasmagoric in parts. (Lovely song, though.) I just could use a second opinion, I guess, especially for phrasing. Is there a preferred way to contact you? Shearscape (talk) 08:04, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
I took a look at the lyrics and I wouldn't call it phantasmagoric. It's very lyrical and has some very bright metaphors, though. The bigger challenge (as always) is going to be converting them to appropriate English expressions. Arknarok (talk) 20:06, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
That's the fun part. Let's see... I can hop on IRC when you're available. I also have a Skype and Google Hangout account, but I think that IRC would probably be more convenient overall. La bruja pícaro (talk) 20:30, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
I'm sitting in #touhouwiki at the moment. Shearscape (talk) 20:37, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

Hey again Bruja, decided to take another look at 君の大事、私の好き after I brought it up earlier in the conversation over NAIMAZE. I already went through it and fixed a bunch of errors (mostly having to do with translating tense wrong) -- you can see the edit history for that. If you could, could you give it a once-over and let me know what you think?

I was having a lot of difficulty with the last stanza, both when I translated it originally and when I went over it again just now. I realize the very last line uses だったんだ rather than なんだ -- does "Well, that was very simple" make sense to you there? There's probably something else I'm missing, too.

Thanks as always, Shearscape (talk) 23:43, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

Ah, yeah. I'm mulling over it, although "that was pretty simple" line makes easy sense to me. Something or another about いつかの空 is bothering me. I think it's something related to her time ability and separation from Merry, right? Like, she's just waiting for whenever they can next meet, so いつかの空 – you know, like obsessively checking the time by gazing at the sky, wondering when they'll next meet (like how the last stanza goes). Everything else looks pretty swell to me. La bruja pícaro (talk) 21:02, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
Good catch with いつかの空. I definitely understand what you're getting at, but I'm not sure how to work that in. It seems that others have translated いつかの~ as "A ~ One Day," which makes sense -- especially if we're talking about your interpretation, where this sky is one of many just like it (while waiting for Merry/Yukari to return). Maybe just "this sky" instead of "the sky", removing the definite article. I feel like there's something better that I'm not thinking of though.
Also, I noticed something else while playing the track over again. In the sixth stanza, the line 「今隣にいられればいいの」 is a conditional of a potential form and not the base, so I didn't translate that part correctly. Maybe it should be "it's best if you could be by my side now", as wordy as that is? (Or some variation of that.) Shearscape (talk) 21:45, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
I think it's possible to omit 今 in the translation if it causes any problems with wordiness, since "now" can be pretty filler in English. I'm not too sure if "it's best" or "it'd be best" is better for that line; I'm a little foggy-headed right now, but something about the English potential form is bugging me. Also, nice catch on that conditional potential form! I only see it now that you mention it. In any case, yeah, I think the line should be changed to some variant of what you wrote here.
I'm not so sure about how to phrase いつかの空 since it has a high chance of becoming a wordy mess if it's anything close to a literal translation. How about "today's sky"? La bruja pícaro (talk) 22:14, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
Point(s) taken -- I ended up using "it'd be best if you could stay near me now" for 「今隣にいられればいいの」, and "today's sky" for 「いつかの空」 (already committed the changes). I agree that it's too hard to not make word soup out of a proper translation, and I wasn't sure if "today's sky" was what I wanted, but I think it's grown on me. Thanks! Shearscape (talk) 00:22, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

Thank you too![edit]

And I also have to thank you for translating Buta-Otome songs! ☢ Quwanti 00:08, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

It's not a problem! I adore Buta-Otome, and I'm glad that I can help put more of their stuff together on the Wiki. La bruja pícaro (talk) 03:32, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

Hey! After not being able to sleep yesterday or tonight, I ended up transcribing and somewhat translating カーネリアン from 鉱石ラジヲ. If you've a spare moment and feel like it, poke me and maybe we can wrap things up there. That album needs a lot more love. (And that song is so catchy!) Mostly just having trouble with the English wording rather than the original lyrics.

Cheers, Shearscape (talk) 05:32, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

Hello. I've waited for you on 31st, but I guess we now need another date for discussing lyrics.Arknarok (talk) 18:53, 3 January 2014 (UTC)

Hey! I'm so sorry, something came up at the very last second and I wasn't able to meet with you on that. I'm mostly available 13:00 UTC to 1:00 UTC at the moment, but I can definitely open up my schedule to fit yours. Let me know when you're most available and we can come up with something—I don't expect to be too busy except dubiously on the weekends, moreso on Sundays (CST). What about you? Bruja (talk) 20:08, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
Well we can try 13:00 UTC Saturday, January 4th. If you are not available then, we'll try connecting on weekdays following that.Arknarok (talk) 20:56, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
Alright, that was too optimistic, I guess. What about Monday? Arknarok (talk) 15:33, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
Ah, my bad. Yes, I'll be perfectly alright on Monday. I'm sorry for all the hassle—didn't quite expect to sleep in so hard today as well. I'll probably be fine on Monday, but I'm going to just guess that I'll be available closer to 17:00 than 13:00 at the earliest (w). Bruja (talk) 18:17, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
Right. Monday 20:00 would be perfect. Arknarok (talk) 18:52, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
Perfect for me, too! I'll be ready then. Bruja (talk) 07:14, 6 January 2014 (UTC)

RE: Regarding 夜桜の宴[edit]

OK, I see, thank you. Learned sth new again. Well, I was aware 運命(さだめ), but I didn't know 恋歌(調べ), I was looking for a word which would make sense, so I thought 詩ラブ would have a similar meaning, though it would be really weird word. But since you say it's 調べ. (I'm not quite familiar with all these words which are sung differently, unless it is given ^^)

  • as, for 深渦底, I really was perplexed there, since I couldn't find anything, but thanks for fixing it.

Regarding 紅色, apparently I had sth different before and just fixed it, and had an accidental space.

  • Well, and I have one more question, in the Katakana line "ヒルリ サクラ ヒトシズク・・・" the original actually says ヒラリ, which makes more sense.

But in the song it sounds so much like a ル that I go with this, though I think there's word called ヒルリ. It is just some weird singin pronounciation again?

  • Thank, you anway, I'LL restore your version again.
Oh heck yeah, 深渦底 confused me at first too. After confirming the pronunciation, however, isn't it a really neat poetic way to say 深み?
Sometimes pronunciation can get really funky, especially when singers are busy belting it out. Try to keep the kanji part of the lyricsheet as accurate to the original as possible except for adding furigana where such cases apply. I don't think there's a word called ヒルリ, but daaang if it doesn't sound like that anyway. I'd keep the romaji written as "hirari" since katakana and hiragana aren't intentionally pronounced differently except in bungo and some rare cases like ヶ which is a sort of exception on its own. I imagine it was just an error since there's no real meaning in ヒルリ and she sings ひらり ordinarily for the rest of the song. As always, lyricists can replace one word (usu. kanji) with another of similar meaning, or even replace one word with one of contradictory meaning. ヒルリ doesn't sound particularly meaningful, so I'd just revert that piece to the original lyricsheet's writing.
Thanks for the reply, good working with you! Bruja (talk) 15:52, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
