Lunatic[edit]

Firstly, note that the entire stage is tap-streaming, except for the small fairies that appear:

  • right before midboss Kutaka,
  • and after the big fairies that come after midboss Kutaka,

and except for the big fairies that fire the static star pattern from Stage 2. The small fairies fire a static pattern with a safespot in the bottom-middle. Thus, for survival on Lunatic, aim not to waste bombs throughout the stage, by streaming conservatively in all parts except for the exceptions listed above. Avoid unnecessary movements, since no static portions overlap with any streaming.

Due to almost all the patterns in this stage being aimed at you, collecting tokens will be very difficult on Lunatic. Try not to enter Roaring Mode more than once before Kutaka, so that you can preserve many beast tokens, and then collect Otter tokens during Kutaka's midboss dialogue. If you get five Otters, you should be able to easily sustain Otter's Roaring Mode for the whole fight with the help of excess tokens, allowing you to trivialize her midboss nonspell while collecting the Rare Beast Spirit of this stage. Its reward (1 life piece, 2 bomb pieces) is extremely valuable for resource management on WBaWC's Lunatic mode. One trick is to use a bomb right before entering Otter's Roaring Mode - defeating Kutaka with a bomb will still give the Rare Beast Spirit so long as Otter's Roaring Mode is still active.

The big fairies at the end that fire the static star pattern from Stage 2 each release one beast token when defeated, but they can be overwhelming if you defeat them all in a short time span. One survival option is to let the first one survive the whole way, since subsequent ones only come in when the current one is defeated. However, if you would like more tokens, then you can shoot them down. Memorize their spawn positions so that you don't have to look up while dodging the dense pattern. Their positions are:

  • directly center,
  • very slightly to the right from the center,
  • slightly to the left from the center,
  • and almost halfway towards the right from the center.

Secret[edit]

The level's secret Rare Beast Spirit is Chick. It is rewarded for defeating the midboss whilst in an Otter Roaring Mode.
Once consumed in a Roaring Mode, Chick will change the Roaring Mode timeout rewards to:

  • 1 Life Fish;
  • 2 Bomb Fish;
  • 1 Point Fish;
  • 1 Power Fish.

Overall, it's recommended to go for this secret.
All that is needed in order to obtain this Rare Beast Spirit is memory and a bit of foresight. Not counting Beast Spirits created by Roaring Mode timeout, 8 Spirit Items appear before the midboss (3 of them being Fish: bomb, power and point). This should give you more than enough room to start a Berserk Roaring Mode during the pre-midboss conversation. Be sure not to get hit or to cancel Roaring Mode, as Roaring Mode needs to be active when the midboss is defeated. If you want the rewards given by this Rare Beast Spirit, do not collect it during Roaring Mode.

Bullet density is very low. Keep yourself near the center.

It's recommended to stay low. The water bullets actually form circles, which are thrown in random directions.

Again, this is pretty luck-based. Try to notice areas where bullets will clump together and move away. You should mostly be dodging individual bullets.

Same as Hard. Clumps form very easily, so try to pull away as fast as you see one.

Stay near the center. You only have to worry about blue bullets.

Your horizontal movement is slightly more limited. Again, focus only on blue bullets.

Blue bullets now come to you from both sides at the same time. The pattern is mostly symmetrical, so you can easily find pockets of safety. Alternatively, dodge bullets from one side before dodging bullets from the other. This method is safer, but avoid moving too far horizontally as the Spell goes on, since the lasers will close up towards the middle.

It's safest to dodge near the very bottom edge of the screen. Micro-dodge and try to stay at the bottom (don't get lead to the center). Horizontal movement is extremely limited. As Reimu-Eagle, you can consider staying at the very top of the screen, above Kutaka, and whittling her health down with your homing shots; since being on top makes the blue bullets much easier to dodge.

Bullets only spawn from spirits. They will leave some behind when moving and throw two at you when dying. Don't be afraid to kill them, their fire is not overwhelming.

There are more spirits, and they now throw long lines of bullets towards you when killed. Be careful not to get backed up into a corner. You should easily be able to find holes in between each set of lines. If the lines become too troublesome, stop shooting and let it rest for a bit.

Same as Normal, but it can sometimes be very hard to find holes in between lines. It's often necessary to stop shooting for a bit. Note that spirits killed close to you will usually not throw any bullets in your direction. Kutaka tends to move towards where your shot is, so you might be able to lure her away from a huge cluster of spirits.

The lines are now much, much longer. If you don't have the skills to pass between the bullets of the lines, stopping to shoot will constantly be necessary. The purple bullets left by spirits will thus be much more worrisome. Also note that Kutaka tends to move towards where your shot is, so you might be able to lure her away from a huge cluster of spirits. Since spirits spawn in a bunch, they'll also descend together. When you're ready to start shooting again and a bunch of spirits are descending, try to position yourself so your attacks only affect the next bunch. Be sure not to timeout by accident.
